Coexist wrote into the HBO forum to let everybody know that Gamespy has put up their preview of Halo for the PC online, including a rundown of the multiplayer capabilities. Apparently the game will ship with full Internet multiplayer as well as six new multiplayer maps, some of which will feature pilotable Banshees and Rocket Warthogs. In addition, there are several other improvements-- from faster load and save times to higher resolutions than the Xbox version's 640x480. Editing tools are also planned.
The downside? Well, it seems as if cooperative play might not be supported. I, for one, am hoping that part turns out not to be true-- cooperative is my favorite way to play Halo.
The story also cites that Halo unit sales have passed 3 million units.
Raptorv22 wrote in to let us know that the first Halo 2 clan (at least that we knew of) has now opened its doors: the 67th Raptors. Go take a look.
SketchFactor has posted to Bungie.net that Bungie's own Halo site, Truth & Reconciliation, has gotten a a major update and a facelift:
The newly revamped Tru7h & Reconciliation site is up and running and to celebrate, we've got some sweet new Halo 2 goodies for ya! Screenshots, concept art, renders and story boards all have something new. And, as an added bonus, Evil Otto has posted the last chapter in his Legendary walkthrough! Check back all throughout next week for more cool stuff during our E3 extravaganza!
There's also a good amount of information about what Bungie will be showing at E3, including demonstrations of Halo 2 and playable versions of PC Halo.
Glenda Adams of Westlake Interactive, the company porting the PC port of Halo to the Mac, was mentioned again on InsideMacGames.com, in part 16 of Tuncer Deniz' one-one-one interview series with the president of the Mac porting house.
To wit:
Glenda: We're still working on fleshing out the DirectX9 to OpenGL code. The game uses a LOT of new 3D technology, so it's the first time we've implemented some of it on the Mac. But we have had the first actual graphics up and displaying, if in a little rough form. The good news is that much of the foundation code for the rest of the game is already compiled and loading data on the Mac, so we're hoping once we get over the graphics implementation issues the game will be in pretty good shape.
Kudos to Jota Rota, who spotted this and mentioned it in the forum at HBO.
After eight years doing Damage and Spin and donning the Online Asbestos Suit for Bungie, Community Guy and Keeper of the Bungie Way Matt Soell has decided to leave Bungie. Friday, April 25, 2003, was his last day. He wrote about his decision in the HBO forum:
Before the juicy conspiracy theories start, I'd like to state for the record that there's no intrigue or drama behind this decision. No political machinations, no long-simmering rivalries, no epic struggle between the forces of light and dark. My reasons for leaving are pretty mundane. It's just time for me to do something different. The rest of the community team will be picking up my slack, and they're committed to doing cool stuff for you guys. With any luck, you won't even realize I'm gone.
Working at Bungie is probably the best thing that's happened to me. I've learned a lot and enjoyed myself immensely. I've had the honor of working with some of the most intelligent, creative, fun people on the planet.
Matt will be sorely missed, especially by those longtime members of the community, as well as the administrators of all the fansites he helped out over the years.
Thanks to Louis Wu at HBO who posted the news. There is also an item posted by Gawyn at Subnova.
Marius has released a executable version of the Myth metaserver. For more information click here. It is Windows only
Thanks Marius!
Just so everybody knows, yes it's true that the news page of HBO is down; however, the forum runs on a different machine, which is still running. Apparently a technical failure ocurred while Louis Wu is on vacation, and that's the cause of the outage.
In the forums at HBO and Subnova lately, there's been much attention paid to a special easter egg put in a Halo level by Jaime Case Griesemer for the benefit of his long-time significant other, Meg Pallor Sagi. It has come to be known as The Megg . Recently Megg-hunt discussions have nearly taken over the HBO forums, prompting the creation of two Megg FAQs, one at HBO by Louis Wu and one at Subnova by Shishka, and now a new Megg-only forum at Subnova. The Subnova Megg forum is of particular note, as that community features the only people who have firsthand knowledge of what it takes to see The Megg, including Pallor, whom it is said may deign to read it and post once in awhile.
