While it isn't necessarily any more vague than when it's done or any of the other non-release dates release dates that developers give out when they don't want to try and pin themselves down to a specific date, Microsoft has put up a page with general information about Xbox games, including Halo.
The E3 coverage page of Bungie.org has a new set of screenshots from Wednesday's FanFestV, as well as mention of three movies they've got of actual Halo gameplay. The third isn't yet available as it is rather large (60MB).
Lophan pointed out in our forum that CNN/fn is doing pretty decent gaming coverage at E3.
Although none of these games have been released yet, it's a fair bet they'll be competing against each other for customers in the coming months.
As well as forum posters on a couple of other gaming sites, Butch mentioned in our forum that at times the frame rate of Halo did drop noticeably-- perhaps as low as 10 fps, in his estimation.
However, in addition to noting that Halo is still at least six months from release, Butch mentioned a few other things that indicate just how powerful this engine-- and the hardware it's running on-- really are.
Word is reverberating around the 'net about Microsoft's announcement of a $299 price point for the Xbox and a November 8 launch date. That's the the same price that Sony's PlayStation 2 currently sells for, and a launch just three days after the Nintendo GameCube debuts. Note, however, that Nintendo announced their launch date after Microsoft announced theirs.
Here's a couple of stories elsewhere on the web:
Harry from Oni Central let us in on the updated FanFest coverage at Bungie Sightings. There are pics up now from the event itself, including 4-player split-screen Halo on a huge screen, as well as the ones from event setup that were posted earlier.
Head over to the Bungie FanFest V site frequently over the next few days, as it's being updated with pictures of the event. The report is that attendees will be able to play HALO before anyone else at E3, which sounds like $7 well-spent! The pictures that are available show the setup process and a real HALO van that we'd all love to have.
Xbox.com has posted the details of the E3 press conference where Microsoft revealed when you'll most likely to be able to get your hand on an XBox, and how much you can expect to pay. To wit: November 8, 2001 and $299.
Microsoft expects to have between 600,000 and 800,000 units available the first day. Xbox.com also has the full transcript of the release as well as a rebroadcast of it.
