Microsoft Sings The Blu-Ray Blues
The Inquirer posits today that Microsoft might forgo any next-generation media formats in the Xbox 2 in favor of plain old DVD, to keep costs down. They also cite the "Xbox 360" name rumor. Thanks BDGamer.

An article at GamaSutra about 2004's Most Creative Games quotes Coray Seifert of Large Animal Games as crediting Halo 2 for being more than just another pretty FPS:
I know I'll take some flak for this, but I really enjoyed the creative implementation of Halo 2's new gameplay features. To fans of the game, it felt intuitive and familiar, but it also gave the player a lot of new toys to play with (dual wielding, new vehicle options, etc.). It was also accessible for folks playing the game for the first time, which you have to respect as well. No, its not the next Sims or Katamari Damacy, but I think its very creative and original for a big-budget sequel.
Thanks Joystiq.
Over at MacFixIt, Charlie reports that his copy of Halo for the Mac wouldn't run ever since he installed Security Update 2005-001, but that reinstalling the 10.3.7 Combo Updater resolved the situation.
mrsmiley announces the Biggest Fan Art Update Ever over at Halo Babies, a total of thirteen gallery pieces plus extras. Go check it out.
While most players may be paying more attention to Halo 2 than to Halo: Custom Edition, life breathes still in the PC port of Halo modified to accept user-developed content. Bungie.net has an interview with the members of the Halo 2 CE Project. They have now released the final versions of Mombasa 2.0 and Zanzibar; the former is a recreation of the E3 version of New Mombasa, and the latter a re-creation of the Zanzibar multiplayer level, both in the Halo: Custom Edition engine on the PC. Thanks VerdaFolio at demented puppy.
Halo nabs the #50 spot on 1UP's list of The Essential 50, a list of the most important games ever made. Thanks Joystiq.
Major Nelson today pointed out the blog of Halley "gamermom" Suitt of Boston, who says she has started a blog to "write about videogames and how my son and I deal with them." Her son's game of choice at the moment is, of course, Halo 2.
[image:9042 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0]Alex "The Man" Seropian, founder of Wideload Games, did a Q&A recently on their upcoming game, Stubbs the Zombie in 'Rebel Without a Pulse'. Click "read more" below for the full interview, and also check out three new screenshots in the Stubbs gallery.
Q. What’s the plot of the game?
A. The game follows the exploits of Stubbs, a Zombie, as he embarks on a quest for true love and brutal revenge in Punchbowl, Pennsylvania, a city of the future built in the 1950s.
Q. How did you come up with this idea?
A. It was a collaborative effort by our small internal prototyping team. We started with a bunch of ideas and spent some time developing the most promising ones. Ultimately the team picked Stubbs the Zombie as the game that would become Wideload's first project.
Daniel "Finn" Barbour of Halo Story Fame's review of Halo, entitled How I learned to stop worrying and criticize Halo 2, is getting passed around again in wider circles courtesy of a link from Joystiq; it's a good look from a critical fan, not an Xbox fanboi or a Halo Hater. If you missed this back in December, check it out now.
The Master Chief has actually already made his Hollywood debut, appearing in theaters in the cinematic trailer that kicked off the I Love Bees phenomenon. But now it appears as if the long-time question, "wouldn't a Halo movie be cool" might soon end up having a real, definitive answer.
The answer still from Bungie is still a variation on "no comment" from the latest Weekly Update by Frankie; however, all Microsoft is saying is that they have not "made any official movie announcements" in response to questions generated by their hiring of writer Alex Garland (IMDB) of 28 Days Later and The Beach fame, and the rumor mill is that Garland would be adapting Halo for the silver screen.
