Xbox News Roundup For September 9, 2005
A few items of note:
- You won't need a credit card for Xbox Live Gold on the Xbox 360, thanks to prepaid cards you can buy for cash.
- Major Nelson's "blogcast" gets a mention in the "New and Notable" section of the iTunes Podcasting section.
- Xbox Solution does a rundown on various Xbox Live statistics. Apparently 15% of XBL subscribers are women.
- TeamXbox thinks the Origen site is a countdown to a Halo 3 announcement, based on the translation of a message in Latin hidden in the site.
Three Hours, Zero Deaths, Two Gigabytes
As mentioned awhile ago, Cody Miller had completed Twin Galaxies' challenge to finish Halo 2 at Legendary difficulty in one sitting and with zero deaths. How, that three-and-a-half hour journey can be downloaded via BitTorrent at HBO. There are 800 and two gigabyte versions. Thanks Louis Wu.
Stubbs A Hit At QuakeCon
With only a few weeks before its expected release, Wideload's first game, Stubbs the Zombie, is making some noise. Of all the non-Quake-engine games shown at QuakeCon 2005, Stubbs the Zombie got the most attention according to GameDaily. There is also another batch of screenshots in our Stubbs gallery for you to peruse. The Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack will be released on October 18. And we hope to have some more info on Stubbs to share with you very soon...
Dark Comes In Two Flavors
With Halo 3 still aways off, Microsoft is pushing Perfect Dark Zero as the launch shooter of choice for the Xbox 360. Kiziko mentions that the game will ship in a standard and deluxe version (as Halo 2 did) and PerfectDarkZero.com has an interview with the game's senior designer, Duncan Botwood.

The Other Kind Of Flood Relief
Bungie is asking the community to pitch in and help the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, Bungie-style; the Bungie Store has a new $19.99 t-shirt for sale, and of that price $15 will go to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief efforts.

News Roundup For September 2, 2005
- Gamasutra has a writeup of a GDC 2005 talk by Andre Vrignaud, part of the Xbox Platform Strategy Group, on how Xbox 360 games will utilize the console's new features.
- Xbox365 makes note of how some users were trying to scam the Mountain Dew "free Xbox 360 every ten minutes" promotion.
- Joystiq has up a copy of a Q&A document purportedly being issued to retailers in advance of the Xbox 360's release, to help them field questions from consumers. Covers most of the same ground as J Allard's recent chat.
- IGN is reporting that the Xbox 360's rumored release date will be the day after Thanksgiving in the United States-- November 26.
Broken Halo Or Broken Record?
Louis Wu at HBO called 1UP's Broken Halo article a broken record by a whiny writer, but myself I find it hard to shrug off all of it's criticisms, even if they are old hat by this time.
