'When It's Ready'

A recent back-and-forth in the HBO forum, as well as numerous references to quotes involving Halo, possibly Halo 3, and release dates in the past year led me to want to try and collate a bunch of these references.

First, let's take this quote from Robbie Bach at Microsoft:

"We're going to ship it when it's ready. [...] You have to be careful with franchises like this."

That sounds like Halo 3, doesn't it? Sound just like what Bach said about Halo at X05, right?

Wrong.

That was about Halo 2, back in January of 2004. The upshot? Halo games get released "when they're ready".

Is that true?

Xbox.com has been updated with the official announcement of the expected launch lineup for the Xbox 360, as well as the official press release naming Peter Jackson as Executive Producer of the Halo film.

Halo Movie Will Be Live Action

Any speculation about whether the upcoming Halo film would be done using computer graphics (as the Final Fantasy film was done) or using live actors (persumably mixed with some CG effects) was quickly put to rest by a front page article in the Dominion Post, a New Zealand newspaper. A scan of this past Thursday's front page of the Wellington edition was submitted in the HBO forum by Spitvalve.

Bungie Confirms 'Leaked' Halo 3 Script A Fake

Frankie posted a very no-nonsense denial of the purported script for Halo 3 that we mentioned yesterday, calling it "either fake, or the fanfic of a dedicated Halo fan being passed off as real."

Halo Movie Script 'Being Reworked'

More details on the Halo movie front today. The Register opines that the involvement of Peter Jackson is just window dressing; Louis Wu at HBO points out the lack of whining on the grapevine, as well as quotes from Jackson in a Reuters story, as evidence to the contrary.

Jackson To Executive Produce Halo Film

Sometimes the rumor mill gets it right-- or at least nearly so. Previous rumors about Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the upcoming King Kong, taking the helm of the Halo film have turned out to be almost correct. He is on board, as Joe Staten's post at Bungie.net now confirms, but as Executive Producer rather than director.

Fake Halo 3 Script Fails To Convince

Yesterday, Kotaku reported on a thread in the TeamXbox Forums that supposedly had a "leaked" copy of the script for Halo 3, in the form of a 119 page (barely 118 not including the cover, looks like the author was shooting for 117) PDF file entitled "Draft4". Shortly thereafter, the thread in the TXB forums was taken down. Kotaku updated their story with a link to the original source-- this thread in the RichesWillRust forum, to which many new users flocked to register and download the file. Meanwhile, several pages of comments on that thread were apparently deleted by a forum mod.

Cortana Getting Jiggly With It

Bungie.net is now confirming the Game Informer story that GhaleonEB pointed out earlier in the HBO forum; that a character from the Halo universe will make an appearance in DOA4. Neither developer is stating which one, as of yet, although the Bungie.net story has an impressive display of Cortana's own unnatural formations, which is either a blatant hint or a huge red herring.
