ReviewGamer gave PC Halo an 8.96 out of 10 score overall; the review is almost completely positive, in comparison to most recent reviews. Thanks Blue's News.
MacSoft's Al Schilling told IMG that although the hardware specifications for Mac Halo aren't known yet, the boxes are going to be printed very soon.
Shades of Marathon? Hmmm.... Thanks HBO.
Marty O'Donnell of Marty's Army fame is having a 2-year anniversary party for Halo. Apparently some Halo 2 info will be on tap. Thanks HBO.
An extremely long and thorough Tweak Guide for PC Halo has gone up at TweakTown. The site also has several tweak guides for the Windows operating system itself (mostly XP), and suggests you visit those first. Thanks HBO.
Similar to the earlier vague announcement that ATI will be producing chips for "future Xbox technologies", Microsoft has named IBM as party to an agreement wherein they are allowed to use IBM technology in "new Xbox products and services".
This has led to the widespread conclusion that the Xbox 2 will use a PowerPC architecture. It's not completely farfetched, as the PPC architecture is widely used in embedded devices where power and heat consumption are major issues; perhaps the plan is for the Xbox 2 to be sleeker and slimmer than its predecessor.
Combined with the ATI announcement, it seems as if it's possible that the next iteration of the Xbox console will use a different processor architecture and a different GPU architecture than the first; some point to Microsoft's acquisition of Connectix, with their VirtualPC product, as evidence that they will provide backwards compatibility with older Xbox games using some kind of emulation software.
Here's a roundup of stories on the announcement:
Some just report what the press release says, others jump right into the "Microsoft dumps Intel" line. We'll see.
SketchFactor posted at Bungie.net about a note sent to him by Destineer. They claim they've had a breakthrough in performance, netting about a week's worth of improvements in a major late-night session. Beta 4, with network play, is supposedly coming soon.
The second batch of Halo figurines, including Green and Red Master Chiefs, an Elite (with Needler and Plasma Rifle) and the Ghost, has now shipped. The collection also includes the Jackal, which we noted on the Bungiecam earlier. Thanks SketchFactor.
Bungie.net has posted the winners of the Halo-Ween contest, where fans were asked to carve a Halo-themed pumpkin. Oddly enough, the 1st place winner was not a 343 Guilty Spark, as a lot of us thought, but a rendition of the Halo 2 EGM Cover. The full list of winners is posted at Bungie.net. Thanks SketchFactor.
The third installment of Lorraine "Mehve" McLees' report from the Anime Reactor convention is up at Bungie.net.
