In the wake of other sites closing, new ones are opening up. Spotted over at Halo.bungie.org: another new Halo site. This one is called Halo Heaven. Although there doesn't seem to be much news online there yet, there is a collection of screenshots, links to movie files and other Halo sites.
We urge everybody to drop by and wish Halo Heaven a warm welcome.
So how tough is it to be an up and coming game developer after years and years of... well, being up and coming? Harder than one might think.
However, things seemed to have turned out all right so far for Bungie Software, which earlier this year became Bungie Studios, part of Microsoft's gaming division. Still, it wasn't always this easy.
We just received word from anima over at Clan-Made:Mything about his new site, which apparently just launched last week but has already been added as a bungie.net channel.
Jenkz of Haloplayers.com has posted the latest interview in their series on groups they call Halo squads . This entry is Death and Destruction or DnD for short. They are from the Netherlands, and they're claiming to be the first such group in that country. They've also recently merged with another group, Deadly Dutchmen, according to Rage of DnD:
Tooling around the web like a madman, this time Bungie's Matt Soell has landed on the Oni Central forum, posting a fleshy update on the status of the eagerly awaited full-contact action title.
The Oni beta has now had 18 iterations, Soell reports, and he's also seen some cutscenes with Marty O'Donnell's sound work added and thinks it's really cool.
In addition:
Bungie's own Matt Soell has seen fit to lay a veritable treasure trove of pertinent, not-so-pertinent details about Halo's progress and Bungie's continuing subversion of the Microsoft machine at the site of our esteemed colleagues in crime, Halo.bungie.org.
Well, it appears that shipping separate CDs for Mac and PC games is SOP (standard operating procedure) for GOD (the Gathering of Developers). This is unlike Myth and Myth 2, Bungie's last two releases, which both shipped as hybrid CDs.
Oni Central has posted that the SKU for a hybrid Oni release has been removed from the systems of online retailer Amazon.com and been replaced by two separate SKUs for PC and Mac versions.
In a post in our own Rampancy.net forum, Bungie's Matt Soell has responded to some of the complaints about Oni not having the ability to save game films. Most previous Bungie games, including all the games in the Marathon and Myth series so far have had this. From the post :
As of October 8, 2000, Halo Central has shut down its operations, the last in a string of site closings and consolidations that will no doubt continue in the long lull before Halo is finally released.
