Round 2 of the Abandoned Base bracket has Halo up against the first true 3d shooter, Id Software's Quake. Can the Master Chief avenge the humiliating defeat handed to his favorite-yet-unnamed security guard by the famously-unnamed Doom Marine? Only time will tell. However, right now, with 6060 votes in, Halo leads Quake 3187 to 2873.
The Bungie Studios page has what looks like two new job entries on it today; one for an Environment Finishing Artist, and one for a Character Animator.
UPDATE: These are most likely old. Louis Wu of HBO let us know that he wrote about the Finishing Artist position last January; we didn't find it because we were looking for the full title 'Environment Finishing Artist'. However, one might assume that because they are still listed on Bungie's page, that the jobs might still be open, even after all this time.
Tycho has posted over in the Marathon Resurrection forum (and mentioned in ours) that the last texture (in this case, the Tick) has been finished, paving the way for this four-year-long project to bring the content of the original Marathon game to the Unreal engine to finally be completed.
At this point, we need your help...we need help to finish these remaining SP maps. We need everyone who can map and can dedicate some time to please try and help, or if you know someone who can help, ask them...if you know of places where you can ask for help, please do. The second part is that I'd like some input from everyone as to how to set up the distribution and collection method for these unfinished to finished maps.
If you're a mapper, or could be, or knows someone who is, drop into their forum and say so. Tycho says he is expecting an "early summer" release for Marathon Resurrection.
Ryan Bryant, founder of Take Two Interactive, the company made more famous recently by its involvement with the Grand Theft Auto series by developer Rockstar Games, has resigned as chairman and director amid an investigation into accounting violations, according to the Associated Press.
Take Two once owned 19.9% of Bungie Software, and accepted the rights to the Myth and Oni franchises, in addition to licenses to use the Halo engine, in return for their shares when Microsoft bought Bungie and made Bungie Studios a part of Microsoft's Game Division.
With the help of HBO's Louis Wu, we found a few more items to add to our Sheet Music page-- a guitar tab for the solo in Silent Cartographer done by Vicious Circle, XvShadow's guitar tab of the main Halo theme, Marty O'Donnell's own sheet music for Siege of Madrigal from Myth and an extension to Siege done by Robyn "Dephalt" Barbour.
Brandon has posted at COERCE that the HBO-COERCE dedicated server for PC Halo is back up.
In addition, the RSS feed for news from COERCE now seems to be working, so we've added their feed to our newsfeed page.
Kyle Barr has posted a rather large FAQ, compiled from various sites, including HBO and FrogBlast's site, of tricks and glitches in Halo for the Xbox. Thanks to Ducain for the heads-up in the HBO forum.
More than two years after its initial release, with the sequel due in mere months, Halo fans are still finding ways to trick the engine into letting them go places the designers most likely never intended.
The latest new trick is by Ducain, who found a way to get a Warthog up on the structure by the light bridge on the level Halo, and posted a 6 Mb WMV file showing it over in the HBO forum. We've mirrored it here at Rampancy, in our Halo Movies section.
The day before that, he posted a video of getting on top of Truth and Reconciliation, solo, and before that it was another first on Silent Cartographer, also solo.
MereCatFish responded to XLNC's HUDless multiplayer shots with a collection of his own; XLNC has already pledged revenge. The new shots are in our MereCatFish gallery.
