Console Sales Ebbing
News.com is reporting that overall console sales are down, with some 19.3 million units expected to have been shipped by the end of this year, compared to 35 million the previous year. In-Stat/MDR analyst Brian O'Rourke summed up the console wars like this:
[Microsoft and Nintendo are] fairly close for No. 2, and I think they'll remain that way. Xbox has done really well in North America, but it hasn't gotten very far in Japan and the rest of Asia. The (Nintendo) GameCube has a solid presence in all three (regional) markets, but they're not really knocking them dead in any of them.
As an aside, the article featured a link to GameSpot Trax, a feature that site uses to rank games according to unique users on Gamespot; at the moment Halo 2 sits atop the chart, followed by GTA: San Andreas and Half-Life 2.
Halo 2 News Roundup... Again
Too much stuff, and so little time. Add those things together and you get news roundups.
- 1UP interviews Michelle Rodriguez who voiced one of the female marines in Halo 2. She's a hardcore Xbox fan who won't expose her breasts in games, and thinks gamers "never get laid". Way to suck up to your fanbase.
- XboxWorld magazine appeared to promise something fantastic and Halo 2 related in their next issue; SPOnG bursts the bubble: it's a multiplayer guide.
- Answers and insults go hand in hand when Bungie's Letters to the Webmaster updates; but some wonder: is the Webmaster just a CENSORED?
- Ducain has revised the presentation of the skull information at High Impact Halo. Thanks Wu.
- Want to work at Bungie? Yeah, we thought so.
- TVG thinks there's going to be Halo 2 downloadable content soon. Don't hold your breath, this is just a rumor so far.
Scarab Eats Warthog
[image:8822 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0] Bigwig pointed out it's possible to get a Warthog up to the set of bridges in Metropolis that you drop down from to board the Scarab and destroy it; beyond that, it's possible to actually drive the Warthog into the Scarab. He captured a few short films, which we combined into this small movie (download requires login; click the headline above and then look for the attachment below). The quality isn't great, but you can make out the Warthog getting into the Scarab.

Nothing Begets Something At Halo Babies

Bungie Owns Up To Humpday Defeat
Frankie's finally given in to reality and posted about Bungie's loss in last week's Humpday Challenge; The Bungie.net Mods team of Shishka, Yoozel, Stoshy and (sort of) Payneful defeated Frankie, AGDTinman and Negabyte. Thanks to akba for the heads-up.
UPDATE: Stosh added a comment to the earlier item about this particular Humpday Challenge; he's also put up an account at his Mob of Angry Peasants chapter page. Editor's Note: We knew peasants would be back in the story at some point; must be Case's influence. As for the Challenge-- Frankie puts the blame on the Bungie loss to Payneful playing for the Mods team, while Stosh says he entered a game and then left after a few seconds.

Pathways Into Doom
[image:8814 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0] Great and rare find over at HBO today-- a bit of news relating to Pathways Into Darkness, the Macintosh adventure shooter that Bungie made before the Marathon series.
Brendon Chung has created Pathways Redux, a mod for Doom 3 that is based on Pathways. We don't have Doom 3 here, so we can't try it out-- but we'd love to have comments from readers if they try this mod. Thanks Louis Wu.
