That's right, get your modem ready to do some more downloading! We'll be playing these fine maps this Friday, February 2 @ 6:30 PST:
Post a message in the forum if you're coming!
Custer's Corner is honoring the release of Oni with Oni Week. Custer, who is known for creating phenomenal Mac gaming desktops, will be adding a new Oni desktop each day for the next week. The desktops will share a common color scheme and will create a series upon completion. There are already two desktops available with nine resolution selections, so one's bound to fit nicely on your screen. Check out Custer's Corner: Oni Week and give your desktop a fresh image to display!
If you're on a Mac and you don't want to wait for all the Store compatibility bugs to be fixed (apparently these are primarily due to the M$ front-end software, so it's Microsoft's task to fix them--which they're plugging away at), you can now dig up an old copy of Netscape 4.0 and use that to order.
Also, the store should accept Canadian addresses by tomorrow.
A new Oni fansite has launched today; All Oni currently offers a demo review, discussion forums, combat tips, and promises to add much more content as the site grows. Currently in the works is a full Oni review, so keep your eyes out and post a message in the All Oni forums until then.
I decided to mosey on over to Haloplayers to see if they'd returned from oblivion. Server outages and related difficulties happen to the best of us, of course, and I hadn't been able to raise their site for several days. This is the response I got today:
IGNPC has posted their review of Oni for the PC. Complaints include the failure to meet expectations due to the mass hype that was behind Oni, poor clipping, and boring textures. Praise for fast-action gameplay and for meshing multiple genres into a single game. Overall, Oni scored 7.5 out of 10. Its lasting appeal was obviously damaged by the absence of a multiplayer mode.
We're still waiting for IGNPS2 to post their Oni Playstation 2 review.
An article has been published by MacGamer that compares the similarities found among Oni and The Ghost In The Shell, the anime movie that greatly influenced Bungie's latest creation. Plots are compared, lead characters are examined, and other items are placed under the microscope as well. If you are interested in finding some information about anime and the movie that ultimately made Oni what it is, then this article's for you.
Computer Gaming World is celebrating its 20th Anniversary and 200th issue with a look backward into the history of gaming. One article, titled What a Long, Strange Blip It's Been , starts off with an image of Halo superimposed over an old black & white image and goes on to discuss some of the greatest games of all time.
As per two accounts at HBO, it sounds like Halo is currently not slated to be bundled with the X-Box. (With the reservation that this could change at any time) Microsoft demoed the X-Box at Michigan State University last night. Information collected includes APIs, hardware specs and various other information. There is a factor of ten difference in estimating how many X-Boxes Microsoft expects to be able to churn out per week, but otherwise the reports seem fairly informative.
