I have one simple question. (Or statement if you will...)
How come in Halo: CE cortana reads into the covenant battle net and tells us that the covenant discovered that Halo was some sort of weapon.
THis was crazy, beacause if they knew it was a weapon then why would they believe in the great journey>?
I have a few theories for this.
1. Cortana already knew Halo was a weapon and she didn't actualy hear talk of that on the battle net.
Well, as fans of the Webcam can appreciate, the power went out in our building about an hour ago, so I am typing this from the basement of a Kirkland abattoir. And that, ladies and gentlemen is why it's short and lacking any real art. I lost an entire day's work. Sorry. I don't have access to our servers. So the Bungie guys and gals took the afternoon off and headed to the local Tiki bar.
This week's Halo 3 Weekly Update by Frankie has more about Halo 2 than Halo 3, but that's no reason not to read it. At least, not a good reason. There's good news and bad news. The good news is, Halo 2 for Vista won't require DirectX 10. The bad news is, the Clan playlist is going away due to underutilization.
Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb has confirmed on his blog recent rumors that the Xbox 360 is getting a major update over Xbox Live sometime soon, perhaps next week. New features include background downloading and booting directly to the dashboard. More details will be in his podcast this Sunday.
Ok everybody, most blogs are about the relations to the bible. There are also an alarming amount of relations to Greek stuff too. Here is a list:
Chi (as in Chi Ceti from the books) is a Greek Letter
Tau (as in Tau Ceti from the books) is a Greek Letter
Marathon-class cruisers (marathon was a popular greek sport)
Halycon-class cruisers (from a myth about a woman named Halycone)
Spartans were ferocious Greek warriors
The MAC-Gun Platform Athens was taking position over the Greek capital of Athens
San Jose Mercury News columnist Dean Takahashi has written a second book about Microsoft's foray into the console gaming business. Released as an eBook, The Xbox 360 Uncloaked: The Real Story Behind Microsoft's Next-Generation Video Game Console also offers some interesting perspectives on the development of Bungie's Halo franchise.
That the fate of the new console should be tied to Bungie's flagship game is certainly no shock; since 2001 Bungie's series of shooters have been system-sellers for the Xbox, and Halo 2 has had a stranglehold on the top spot in Microsoft' Xbox Live online gaming service since it was released in late 2004.
Takahashi's book claims that Bungie became caught in a struggle between the hardware and software sides of the Microsoft Games Division over how to best promote both the platform as a whole and individual games, and that eventually Hamilton Chu, Pete Parsons, as well as other Bungie staffers, and Ed Fries, who spearheaded the buyout of Bungie by Microsoft, were all casualties of it in one way or another.
The below text is a sort of "executive summary" of the book, including many the points where the stories of Bungie and Halo intersect with the business of Microsoft Games Studio and the division of Microsoft that makes the Xbox and the Xbox 360. Excerpts from Takahashi's book are reproduced here with permission of the author. All quotations and paraphrases of statements by personnel currently or formerly of Microsoft or Bungie, whether identified by name or not, are taken from the book; no one contacted for this article wished to comment for the record at the time of its publication.

[image:10206 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0] KP has hit the ground running at Bungie with a story at Bungie.net that explores the hidden (or perhaps not so hidden) connections between people who cheat at Halo in matchmaking and poor spelling, nonexistant grammar, and general idiocy.
My personal favorite is the one who tried to plead innocence and then make a legal threat:
Major Nelson has posted a list of the top ten High Definition video downloads on Xbox Live during E3.
The winner?
Do you have to ask?
Top spot went to the Halo 3 game trailer. Check Major Nelson's blog for the entire list.
Two separate articles on the port of Halo 2 to Windows Vista today. Kevin Unangst (no jokes please) talks to GamePro. Word is that Halo 2 for Vista will come out a bit after the OS' release, currently slated for early in 2007, and that the game most likely will not be cross-platform compatible with Halo 2 on the Xbox, as it would require changes on the Xbox version to work.
From the second sequence of distorted Cortana images, as she voices "I am your shield, I am your sword."
[image:10167 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0] IGN's Halo 3 Announcement Trailer gallery had four images in it not published by Bungie. We've now added them to the gallery here. We've now subdivided the Halo 3 Images page into separate galleries: one for storyboards, and one for screen captures from the trailer itself. As other images are released we'll create separate galleries for them.
Rampancy.net Halo 3 FAQ
Q: What is Halo 3?
A: Bungie.net's About Halo 3 page says this:
Halo 3 is the third game in the Halo Trilogy and will provide the thrilling conclusion to the events begun in Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 3 was first revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles on May 6th, 2006. Halo 3 will be available for Xbox 360 in 2007.
CVG has a recap of some of Microsoft's E3 goings-on, focusing primarily on the advantage that Shane Kim believes Xbox Live gives to the 360, as compared to Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3.
Of course, some recently announced games also got mentioned:
"Hopefully we've put to bed any concerns or confusion about what Bungie is doing with the Halo universe. They're very focused on Halo 3 and they're going to make it bigger and better and everything everyone expects."
Louis Wu at HBO has put up a summary of links to interesting forum threads; many of them touch on issues I mentioned in the Annotated FAQ, which also included a short analysis of the Announcement Trailer. And before everybody goes nuts, I had to go ahead and do that without checking any of the forums first because I was already behind by 12 hours, so no, I didn't steal anyone else's speculations or screenshots.
