As seen on MacCentral, MacGamer's Ledge, and Inside Mac Games (thanks to Char the Pirate for pointing out the last two on our forum):
An interesting item on the Aleph One project at Marathon Open Source from Aleph One codewarrior Steven Bytnar. Paving the way for future Aleph One work, he has started work on a port for MacOS X:
On the halo.bungie.org forum, Matt Soell was asked whether Halo will come out for the PC, and if so, why this announcement wasn't simultaneous with that of Halo's being released for the Mac. His response:
Releasing it for PCs as well is the obvious thing to do. It wasn't PCWorld Expo, ya know. :-)Everyone comes to the Halo party.
Read the thread.
Last night I received an E-mail from our own Narcogen on what he saw yesterday at MWNY. Anyone who has seen the Keynote will not find some things to be new information, but I think there's a lot of value in getting a report from someone who can relate his impressions from the site.
Kudos to Bravehamster, who has put together some instructions for PC users trying to get onto b.net. Apparently, there are some things in the bungie.net preferences that require... ahem... hex-editing in order to make Myth see the right server. Fortunately, it's not that hard:
Sorry about that, I missed an important detail. PC users, this announcement most likely applies to you too--if Bungie produces Halo for the Mac, they will almost certainly produce it for the PC as well. We're trying to see how this affects release dates, but Hallelujah! Wheee!
And the Heavens did part, and a great Hallelujah did come down and kick all of our asses.
In the keynote address at this morning's Macworld New York, a year after Halo's premiere showing at the same event within an event, Steve Jobs, Bungie's Alex Serpoian, and MS's Ed Fries have reaffirmed their commitment to the Mac and PC platforms. Half crazed with the my missing video stream, I will try to get the important details here:
The future of Bungie's game on the MacHaven't had a great way to come to the Mac - Ed Fries
Judging by the excited chittering on RHL at the moment, the Myth bungie.net servers are back online and available to some people. Doubtless other people will have access as the hours go on, which means it'll probably be up and active bright and early tomorrow morning. And for you non-believers out there, it'll still be free. So there.
As the servers slowly move over (the domains have propagated as far as Canada, so you should all be able to reach them), the Bungie crew is moving over and in too. Asked on RHL what the new digs were like, Jaime of the Halo team had this to say:
