Oni Central has posted a CGI script that will generate your Oni controls for you. The Oni Key Configuration Script displays pull-down menus for you to select the key you wish to bind. Once you have set your controls, a text document is generated for you. Simply paste the information into the key_config.txt file in your Oni folder, save, and you're set.
The script was written by My Modem Is On Fire and Yeroen of Bungie, although it is an unsupported tool.
Two more reviews have popped up on the web, this time from IGNPS2 and Inside PS2 Games. IGNPS2 commended Oni's mixing of the genres and said it has a good lasting appeal, stating that it's long and deep action wise, so you'll be playing for a long time. Inside PS2 Games was a little easier on Oni, giving it a 7.75 out of 10 overall. Here was the review's bottom line:
IТve played all three versions of Oni, and the Playstation 2 version is clearly superior to Oni on the PC and Mac. For starters, controlling Oni with the PS2Тs Dual Shock 2 is simply incredible once you get a hang of the controls. Playing on a keyboard just doesnТt compare to a controller. Graphically the game looks better on a PS2, and the action and gameplay certainly feels more at home on a 32 TV than it does on a cramped computer monitor. If you have a choice between the computer and Playstation 2 version of Oni, IТd say the PS2 version is the clear choice.

Well, it's nice to see Halo still in the running, especially considering that we haven't been pushing the vote for the poll. Shall we see what rank Halo can get if we begin to wage an active campaign? This month's issue includes PC Gamer's annual gaming awards and a few preview pages from X-Box Magazine. It's worth checking out. In addition, PC Gamer promises that the next issue (April 2001) will include an exclusive preview of Unreal 2... The engine that Epic boasts will be a Halo-killa. We'll just have to see, won't we? ;-)
The support page of the official Oni web site has opened its hints section. The newly created area walks through the first chapter of the game detailing every aspect of the opening level. Keep an eye out, as it's likely the hints section will expand to include other levels.
Oni Week continues at MacGamer. An interview with Marty O'Donnell of Total Audio has been posted, which asks questions about the importance of music in games. Here's what O'Donnell had to say about audio contribution to the gaming experience:
There's no doubt that good audio brings the graphics to life. Fire the screaming cannon for example and turn off all the sound. It looks cool, but certainly won't scare you unless you can hear it in all it's screaming glory. One of the main efforts for me was to make sure all of the movements and impacts sound real and are in sync. If it's done well, it just seems natural and goes unnoticed, if it's done poorly, it's noticed.

Problems with the Bungie Store? Bungie's Yeroen posted an update on the store's status, and addressed a few of the concerns voiced since shorty after the store opened up. Among them:
If all goes as promised, first thing my time tomorrow we'll be taking Canadian orders (we've still got posters!), and that infernal backordered status will finally be gone. (None of our items are actually backordered, it's all just silliness.) Finally, we've thought up a little something nice to do for all those that placed orders today and yesterday to thank you for putting up with all this crap.
Well, guess we can call off the planned Canadian invasion. Mere hours before we ooozed across your undefended border like evil maple syrup, storming your complacent villages, taking your guns, and burning your White House... again! Bwaaa-haaaha--*ahem*.
In addition to word on the Bungie Store, Yeroen also left a teaser about a future treat at Oni Central, so keep an ear open for that one too.

Custer's Corner is honoring the release of Oni with Oni Week. Custer, who is known for creating phenomenal Mac gaming desktops, will be adding a new Oni desktop each day for the next week. The desktops will share a common color scheme and will create a series upon completion. There are already two desktops available with nine resolution selections, so one's bound to fit nicely on your screen. If you're on a Mac and you don't want to wait for all the Store compatibility bugs to be fixed (apparently these are primarily due to the M$ front-end software, so it's Microsoft's task to fix them--which they're plugging away at), you can now dig up an old copy of Netscape 4.0 and use that to order.
Also, the store should accept Canadian addresses by tomorrow.
A new Oni fansite has launched today; All Oni currently offers a demo review, discussion forums, combat tips, and promises to add much more content as the site grows. Currently in the works is a full Oni review, so keep your eyes out and post a message in the All Oni forums until then.
