What do you mean make up my mind, those are two entirely different situations. And of course the average male is stronger than the average female. One of our horomones, testosterone causes our muscles to be denser and stronger than women. If you don't believe me, take a look at the world record for weight lifted by men, and then compare it to women.
I am sick of people using one example as a disprovement of a stereotype. Stereotypes don't come out of thin air man, they come from cold hard facts. You have to understand that evolution worked against women in terms of physical strength because they don't have the same horomones as men. Men were the providers and protecters for their family, which would make it so that only the strong men would survive, where as womens physical strength wasn't as much of an issue. Thus, mens muscles evolved to become tougher, thicker and overall stronger than women's.
BTW ... you want cold hard facts : look in any health textbook : you will find that women also have testosterone - as much as needed to build plenty of muscle. I can use this one case because you said generally. It is not generally. I know many women atheletes who are as strong and much stronger than men of their own class. I don't think this is a big deal, so don't my answer as some kind of challenge. =) I just think that video games could and should be more controversial than they are. I mean, just because there are more males in the military doesn't mean that there should be more males in the video game Halo (which is in no way a reality-sim). I would just like it if someone, somewhere made a female character in a game without making a big deal out of it. There are some games that almost manages with this, for example Oni and Perfect Dark.
Come to think of it the very best example is the escape pod pilot in Halo! She has clothes on, she speaks a quite unattractive dialect, she has a real job (she's not a bystander) and, best of all, she DIES! You have to look for quite some time to find a comparable female character in a video game.
By the way, I have no idea if the pilots dialect is considered "unattractive" by americans. But I do know that it's not the way females usually speak i video games and cheap action flicks.
: the video game Halo (which is in no way a reality-sim).
Halo is supposed to be a realistic, futuristic action/shoot'em up game. Its not a sim, but it tried to put whats real into it. It does not follow all realities, but it does follow most. That is the point. I dont think that if we made an all-female cast that the game would be very realistic in that aspect. However, there should be some more than there is now.

After watching the Halo 2 trailer several times, a few questions came to mind.
1) What ship/station is the MC jumping off of? It's not under attack and there's no one else on it...seems a little odd...
2) How is the MC going to land on the Covenant Assault Carrier without killing himself? In Halo 1, he died jumping a few stories.
3) How is the Longsword fighter going to make it all the way back to Earth? I doubt it's capable of hyperspace or whatever faster-than-light travel the UNSC uses.
4) Wouldn't reentry into Earth's atmosphere cause the MC to burn up? I know he has the shielding, but that's not invincible either.
That's all I can think of. Looking forward to your responses/theories.
1: MC probably found his way onto another ship after leaving on the longsword. There is no indication that it is NOT under attack.
2: If you read the book you will see that MC boarded several covenant ships. He waited until they shot their plasma weapons (which disabled the shields for a few seconds) and he entered. I dont think that MC would actually die falling as little as a few stories, but if the game was made so he could drop huge distances it would not seem real. Also when he is dropping from the ship he is not going as fast straight down (note that since he is in orbit the earth's gravity will not act on him as much)
3: The Longsword may very well be equipped with enough power to reach somewhere near earth, or at least a nearby human colony. If he did reach some human outpost he may well have taken a ship (the one he is on the in the trailer) and gone to Earth.
4: He is not reentering Earth's atmosphere - he is jumping to a covenant ship.

The ship/station the MC is on isn't shaking (like when the PoA was under attack) and things weren't exploding (like on the PoA again). I don't think it was under attack for some reason.
Ask for everything else, that makes sense.

there is a difference between "under attack" and "ship falling apart around you".
ships are big, you can have one end get hit (in fact that's what made the PoA a great ship) and it still function fine. the reasons for localized shaking and explosion was probably a very local hit. that, and internal systems failing.
in other words, you can be in battle, taking hits, and not have everything shaking and blowing up ;-)

A paracchute maybe? Damn come on guys use your heads, just cuz he doesn't have a bag on his back doesn't mean he's got nothing to slow him down. This is the future, i'm sure they've got something to slow him down.

bingo. in the book the Spartens had a type of jet propulsion that they used to maneuver in space. again, this system doesn't need to be a pack on their back, in fact it would be better if it were something that shot out of the legs, back, arms so that you had fine control. I don't think the MC would wind a little extra weight ;)

First thing. Parachutes are not possible in space. Why?
Air + Laws of Friction + Parachute = Slower Fall
Second thing. The jetpack on the back would make sense, but MC does not look any different in the trailer than from Halo. So I doubt that is the case. However, jetpacks out of the legs and arms would make absolutely no sense, in no possible way. If he wanted to achieve a decent speed in one direction, he would have to hold his arms and legs in the same EXACT orientation, for a long period of time. This would require a LOT of energy, and if he wanted to reach the ship by jetpack, it would seriously hamper his ability to fight thereafter. And even if he did reach a decent speed, what would be the point? He would then need to turn his arms around and slow himself down in the same way. Which is a big problem. Then there is fuel. I understand that you dont need a lot, but the Spartans DID need jetpacks in the book. So I doubt that unless he had an external jetpack on (It did not look like he did) I dont think he could house enough space in his suit for the pack, the leg/arm jets, and the fuel. Even if he wanted to it would be impractical. Here is my opinion on how he jumped to the other shit. In the trailer, you see MC walk down some hallways, down a lift, and finally into a BAY. a bay for what? probably LETTING STUFF OUT INTO SPACE. behind him when he opened it there seemed to be plenty of space to put a Longsword (possibly 2 if the wings were somehow folded in). When he opened the bay, there was a vaccuum outside, and matter inside. That caused all the matter (air, various objects) to fly out, and basically create a current to the outside. All he had to do to jump to the other ship was to jump into the current. It would launch him into space. The only problem I see with this is slowing down, but as he jump quite a bit after the airlock was actually opened (meaning that most of the air was already out) the current had probably slowed down a lot (Although I doubt that by physics this is possible, its a realistic game, so that miniscule a detail may have not been brought into consideration), meaning that he could safely jump out and not be flying out into space at 100 mph. Safe to say, he does make it to the other ship, or otherwise our faithful MC has gone quite insane and just committed suicide and killed Cortana as well (Although im not sure killing is the right word for Cortana {And if he is trying to kill them she can just upload herself through the radio to the General/Admiral/Whoever the Hell she wants to})
first of all guys, Halo is a game. It has fantasy and science fiction. Who says the MC's new suit doesn't have a built in jetpack. Or maybe it has an air propulsion system. The fuel he probably uses is a small compressed can of air. Maybe in the future people can compress air more efficiently. You can probably hold 3 times as much air or gases in a sparay aerosol can in the future than now. Also the MC wouldnt have to keep those small air jets pumping. He would only have to use short bursts of air for corrections in flight.

Ok but it is useless. He is using the current of air provided by opening the airlock/cargo bay door to launch him to the other ship...
If he misses, small adjustments wont help him. I dont think he has anything. Anyway he said he wont miss, so I really doubt he needs a jetpack or anything like it...

BTW, if you read the book, they had external jetpacks. I dont think that he got back to some human outpost, got refitted with a new suit, and went to earth. It would take too much time- im betting the covies would already be there. Oh and if you look at how the compression of gasses works, you will see that beyond what we have now, there is not much more we can do, besides actually freezing the gas. Which would be useless, because the energy spent in heating it back up the use would overweigh the usefulness SO much, that...I think you get the point...
Off topic, but if you guys want to see the halo2 trailor in a whole new light (literally) play the WMV version using winamp3. It totally shifts the colors around. Personally I think it looks pretty cool. Plasma explosions on earth and golden covie cruisers - that sorta thing.
It wouldn't require that much energy to defreeze the gasses. He could keep some radioactive material in his suit, or use the battery to heat it back up.
Oh yeah, radioactive materials, thats always fun to keep in close contact with your body. And Btw how would that melt it? Radioactive materials are not hot, just radioactive. And the suit battery is pretty occupied with other things. I dont think he would want his suit to shut down just to heat some gas. And trust me, the amount of energy is pretty damn big to heat it... Its not like heating water so it boils away. This is cooling air down to almost Absolute Zero. so not only would it have to be maintained by either very strong metals or just lasers, which would use TREMENDOUS amounts of energy. Im sorry I even mentioned the possibility of doing such things, because it is almost impossible. It is a matter of such proportions that you can compare it to nuclear fusion, or near-light-speed travel.
I think he's just jumping off a deseted cruiser, If you' ve read The Fall of Reach, the MC jumps lands on it and find a opening. the longsword was probably found by a salvage group like in Aliens, then gets on a cruiser and go'g to earth. The MC wouldn't be in space when he go's through the atmoshere, he might take over the Covenent ship and land it
Do you understand that the battery in his suit runs a fucking energy shield?? I sincerely doubt his whole battery would even be needed and what would he need it to run anyway?? Hes not gonna need a shield while hes flying through space and his battery will have time to recharge. Also this propulsion material does not need to be flash vaporized but can take place over a period of time, requiring just constant heat not instantaneous. And radioactivity can clearly be blocked by certain materials.
I dont even give a damn if carry some fuel or something. He is not going to. You know why? BECAUSE HE JUMPED TO THE OTHER FUCKING SHIP!!
YOU DONT SEE ANY JETPACK OR ANYTHING, AND YOU SEE HIM COME CLOSE TO LANDING!! OK? SO THATS IT. HE JUMPS.END OF STORY.
Calm youself, man. You're right: there's not jetpack or fuel or anyhting that you can see, but in the previous game, the MC died jumping off a cliff something that was a few yards tall. The distance from the ship that the MC was on and the Covenant Assualt Carrier was pretty far. My question was how does he survive?

The simple reason he wouldn't die in this situation is that he's not accelerating in anyway, his speed remains constant the whole time and thus the whole force of the impact shouldn't be too bad. The distance of the jump is unimportant. And the reason it matters, mwcm, is that even though its trivial whether or not he has a jump pack in this situation, your still wrong about the usage of fuel.

If you think about it....
In reply to: Re: puttin women in would have re: the video game Halo (which is in no way a reality-sim).

Q's on Halo 2 Trailer

Re: Q's on Halo 2 Trailer
In reply to: Q's on Halo 2 TrailerAnswers : :)
Hope this shined some light...

Safe to say, he does make it to the other ship, or otherwise our faithful MC has gone quite insane and just committed suicide and killed Cortana as well (Although im not sure killing is the right word for Cortana {And if he is trying to kill them she can just upload herself through the radio to the General/Admiral/Whoever the Hell she wants to})
Thnx for ur time :)

In reply to: Re: Q's on Halo 2 Trailerfirst of all guys, Halo is a game.

Nifty Trailor Trick
In reply to: Q's on Halo 2 TrailerOff topic, but if you guys want to see the halo2 trailor in a whole new light (literally) play the WMV version using winamp3. It totally shifts the colors around. Personally I think it looks pretty cool. Plasma explosions on earth and golden covie cruisers - that sorta thing.

Re: Nifty Trailor Trick
In reply to: Nifty Trailor TrickIt wouldn't require that much energy to defreeze the gasses. He could keep some radioactive material in his suit, or use the battery to heat it back up.
Anonymous (not verified)
You replied to the wrong one :)
In reply to: Re: Nifty Trailor TrickOh yeah, radioactive materials, thats always fun to keep in close contact with your body.

Re: Q's on Halo 2 Trailer
In reply to: Q's on Halo 2 TrailerI think he's just jumping off a deseted cruiser, If you' ve read The Fall of Reach, the MC jumps lands on it and find a opening. the longsword was probably found by a salvage group like in Aliens, then gets on a cruiser and go'g to earth. The MC wouldn't be in space when he go's through the atmoshere, he might take over the Covenent ship and land it

Re: Q's on Halo 2 Trailer
In reply to: Re: Q's on Halo 2 TrailerDo you understand that the battery in his suit runs a fucking energy shield?? I sincerely doubt his whole battery would even be needed and what would he need it to run anyway?? Hes not gonna need a shield while hes flying through space and his battery will have time to recharge. Also this propulsion material does not need to be flash vaporized but can take place over a period of time, requiring just constant heat not instantaneous. And radioactivity can clearly be blocked by certain materials.

In reply to: Re: Q's on Halo 2 TrailerCalm youself, man. You're right: there's not jetpack or fuel or anyhting that you can see, but in the previous game, the MC died jumping off a cliff something that was a few yards tall. The distance from the ship that the MC was on and the Covenant Assualt Carrier was pretty far. My question was how does he survive?

Re: Q's on Halo 2 Trailer
In reply to: Re: Q's on Halo 2 TrailerThe simple reason he wouldn't die in this situation is that he's not accelerating in anyway, his speed remains constant the whole time and thus the whole force of the impact shouldn't be too bad. The distance of the jump is unimportant. And the reason it matters, mwcm, is that even though its trivial whether or not he has a jump pack in this situation, your still wrong about the usage of fuel.
