KillerMac has posted a tongue in cheek parody of Bungie's www.bungie.com site, outlining what one might say is the 'worst case scenario'. An excerpt:
4/16 - Bill Gates tells WWII: Recon mapmaking group to package Internet Explorer with their plugin or he will destroy them
If the MS-Bungie thing still sits uneasily with you, you may want to pass this one up. But if you do go, be sure to take a look at the roll-over on Bungie's logo... hee!
A bit late, but FAQ news never goes out of style. Oni Central has posted an Oni FAQ, taking care to be complete and at the same time minimizing the amount of recycled press kit material that plagues some FAQ's (yes, yes, I'll update ours soon). A recommended stop for anyone following Oni, and for anyone looking to start.
Computer Games Online has posted up Part One of its newest Halo preview. It includes a number of new screen shots and is very positive in its description of Halo while currently choosing to not discuss the questionable future of a Mac/PC release. Good read - I suggest you go take a look. I think that the fact that they're doing the preview in more than one part suggests that CGO is VERY impressed with Halo.
Bit earlier than expected, but down nonetheless. The Myth II b.net server has gone down for the move to Redmond (or rather, as suggested by some folk on RHL, into the Seventh Circle of Hell), but all isn't lost.
The Townhall has word that Glue the Moose is organizing games on their HL server at 24.15.138.107 (Login: mwc, Password: mwc), and we're doing a bit of the same at RHL, at hl.rampancy.net. So if you're looking for MWC practice matches, just stop buy a community HL server, and you shouldn't have much trouble finding players.
Bit out of our usual scope, but beggars can't be choosers. Kudos to rhino, who pointed out a news item at Firing Squad detailing another purchase of a gaming company by Microsoft. The company in question is NetGames USA--a bit of background nipped from the full news item:
Jon Keegan's sharp eye spotted the long-expected update to the Halo availability announcement on Halo.Bungie.Com-- although it might not be what you expect.
The page now says only:
Coming soon to a platform near you.
Of course, what constitutes a platform near you may vary from viewer to viewer.
A good catch, Jon. See the Marathon 2 Updater out there anywhere?
The guys at halo.bungie.org have come up with an exceptionally fine pair of scans from the August 2000 issue of PC Gamer, showing off some very interesting concept art for an elite Covenant unit and an in engine shot of the infamous needler gun from the E3 demonstration movie. Both interesting, though the concept art is always a favorite of mine...
Kudos to Fred, who scanned in a half dozen screenshots from the August 2000 issue of Computer Games Magazine and uploaded them to RHL. We're having a wee bit of FTP difficulty at the moment, so I haven't placed any of the cooler ones up here yet, but I'll get to that soon.
Among the shots (and the one I want to mirror here ASAP) is one of two new and terribly cool aliens, both of whom bear as little resemblance to the Covenant we're used to as the humans do. Stay tuned for a mirror...
There's been a lot of speculation about the use of 3d graphics APIs on Microsoft's upcoming console machine, the X-Box, which by now everyone knows Microsoft bought Bungie to make Halo for.
With Microsoft's tendencies to try and push its own APIs like DirectX over those of competitors, like SGI's OpenGL, there have been some suggestions that the X-Box might be DirectX only, and that this might hinder a Macintosh version of Halo should Bungie decide to actually release one.
