It's difficult to find words to express the privilege I feel to have been involved in this site and to have been a fan of Bungie for more than fifteen years and of Halo now for ten.
So on the occasion of this, Rampancy.net's tenth anniversary (first post here) I thought I would just make reference to this, one of the many videos of Bungie's first public demonstration of Halo at MacWorld in New York in the summer of 1999.
This is not the best quality version of that video, of course, but it is one that includes the crowd's reaction (and the reaction of the videographers) and for that reason I feel it best captures the enthusiasm that Bungie generates with its unique products, the enthusiasm that creates unique fan communities like Halo has.
There's also a YouTube version of the same demo that is of interest because it is annotated and includes more of Steve Jobs and Jason Jones and their introduction to the video.

Re: Ten Years Of Rampancy
Congrats to Rampancy on ten years of thoughtful and entertaining stuff.
Regarding the announcement footage: when Jason got back to the Chicago office, he talked about the roar of applause that built from the back of the theater when the action moved outside, and how heartening that was to him. (His uncharacteristic nervousness is apparent in the longer clip.) Jason knew the press would be too jaded or preoccupied to react to what they were seeing; we were playing to the kids in the cheap seats, as it were.
Most Bungie staff watched the announcement via satellite from Apple's office downtown. The other people in the room were suits who were much more interested in the demo of IBM ViaVoice; they sat stony-faced through the Halo demo while the Bungie crew got loud and raucous. I wonder if any of them play Halo now.

Probably they do. It's interesting to imagine there being a group to make Apple look like a bunch of stiff suits-- one tends to think of them as the jeans and t-shirts in the computer industry (or at least the jeans and turtlenecks).
Rampant for over se7en years.
