HaloDev has put up the first of in a series of "Feature Focus" articles. This one, by Talin, is accompanied by a very complex render done by Talin and Veegie and covers the technique of normal mapping to add the appearance of detail to textured polygons.
This image, which apparently took more than 30 hours to render and includes models extracted from Halo 2, was created by Talin and Veegie to demonstrate the technique of "normal mapping". There is at least one easter egg, as well as a few "doesn't really belong" objects in the image, if you can find them.
Xbox Live is telling you to walk away from the television set and spend time with your friends and family in the real world this holiday season. At least, that's the message one might infer from the fact that for several hours now, subscribers can connect to the services to browse the Marketplace or use voice chat, but not play games.
Ok first of all I have recently found out that I will have a lot of free time after all, thus I will still be on this site a lot.
Anyway moving on to the subject. There have been several requests about a transcription for the halo 3 cg trailer's background music. Well I was not able to make it out so clearly but I can tell you that it is only the first part of the halo 1 main theme played a little faster. And that is that.
Max "Yeroen" Hoberman, Bungie alum and founder of Texas-based Certain Affinity, now working on new Halo 2 multiplayer maps for release next year, gave an interview to Firing Squad.
However, that's not all they're working on, apparently:
FiringSquad: You are also working on a new game. What can you tell us about this game at this stage?
I redid the Halo 2 Theme and fixed its mistakes. It is now played with violins and a cello and is played in the right key. It is also set as string ensemble for better quality sound. Again you can change it by selecting "instrument list" under "window" at the top of the page. Once again it is for Finale Notepad 2009.

I was just looking at some of the old tips and tricks back then and they discussed the same thing over and over, I mean they had to make an archive for THE GOLDEN WARTHOG that everyone keeps fussing about. Well if you havent figured it out yet theres no such thing in the game. I can tell you how to get an invincible warthog but not a golden one. Anyway I dont know if you knew this already or not but to go in to ease down position just press down on the directional pad. To get out of it press down again, melee, or shoot. Anybody else know a trick that hasnt been mentioned before???
On the bottom of Midship, there are two energy shield type things that glow bright turquoise. They look like 1/4 ovals. Have one person stand facing the shield, touching it. Have another person assassinate the first person. The first person's body will fall partly into the shield. Whichever part falls in, becomes uncontrollably shaky and deformed. Sometimes, heads will stretch out until they start flipping around like balloons on rubber strings.
The little cylindrical structure, medical station on the bottom level of Turf is one of the glitchiest places in Halo 2. Have one person stand inside the structure, and another person assassinate the first person while staying inside the medical station. If you do this right, the dead body will flop around and slap himself in the face with his arm. To make the person slap their self, they have to be lying on their side. If they are on their back, the arms will only constantly twitch.
Max "Yeroen" Hoberman, one of the longest-serving Bungie employees, is founding a new games development company, Certain Affinity. The CA team of developers in Austin, Texas, including other Bungie alumni such as David Bowman and Chad "Shishka" Armstrong are already hard at work on new maps for Halo 2. Bungie.net has the lowdown in an interview with Frankie.

Spartan Jag got matched up with a bunch of quitters in Team Slayer on Xbox Live, but came away with a heartwarming tale of good sportsmanship and good manners involving a group not unknown to HBO's readers-- the Tied The Leader Gunslingers. A good read, check it out.
Eurogamer is doing a retrospective on the top twelve exclusive franchises for the first Xbox console. Halo 1 and 2 unsurprisingly clock in at #1.
