OK, I actually noticed this one myself earlier today, but Louis beat me to the punch posting it at halo.bungie.org. Gaming Age just posted a Halo preview-- not necessarily timely, not necessarily new, not necessarily accurate-- but if you're just that starved for another mention of the XBox's flagship title, go knock yourself out.
Matt could tell us what they are working on... but then he'd have to kill us. In response to some complaints at the halo.bungie.org forum about the recent lack of new screenshots, movies, or juicy update tidbits, Matt Soell has piped in on why mum is now the word:
Glad to hear that the insectile eradication program is proceeding apace, Mr. Soell. Now, about that wall-hugging hippo...The lack of major new stuff in the Halo Updates is largely because most of the stuff we're working on now is spoiler-heavy. As for the rest, there are only so many ways I can say bug fixes.
Anony from MythWolfAge.com let us know that he's posted the first part of Pfhor's report on his recent visit to the offices of MumboJumbo, the developers of the upcoming Myth 3, the latest installment of the Myth series began by Bungie. Some of the highlights:
Let me tell you, I did see a lot that I can't talk about, but rest assured there is a ton of new features to come your way. Since the last batch of screenshots, all units have been smoothed out a bit for a more realistic look. Oh yeah, did I mention that after listening to Scott speak about his own version of the Myth storyline, I am 100% confident he is the best person to pick up from where Bungie left this magnificent, yet complex story. There's also a hint that an as-yet unmentioned race from the first two games may be returning, so be sure to check out the report...
DirkDaring pointed out in our forum, along with Louis Wu at Halo.bungie.org, that an unnamed developer from an unnamed company who claims to know what he's talking about when it comes to the XBox has this to say in an article titled Inner Xbox Secrets Revealed at The Inquirer about Microsoft's upcoming console machine and its performance at E3:
While there's little new information here, and nothing to distinguish this developer from an educated fan who's been following most of the information released so far, it still makes for an interesting read in the slow news void between now and November 8. Most of the article focuses on the differences between XBox and PC hardware, and why PC games won't run on it and vice versa. Still, I'd put money on some clever company figuring out a way to emulate it within a year or so. After all, Connectix did so, making a PlayStation emulator that ran on existing Macintosh hardware, even though the PS1 used a different processor and custom graphics hardware. Meanwhile, the XBox's video gear is at least based on the GF3, and it uses an Intel processor, and that has to make the job of writing an emulator easier. The public has yet to see a demo of a native X-Box game, written specifically for the X-Box and its feature set. I can tell you, it pisses all over the PS2. This coming Xmas might be a bit dull for X-Box, but in the long run, the quality of X-Box titles is going to make the PS2, and most PC games, look real sad. I can tell that just by looking at the stuff we're doing where I work, and other companies are doing even more impressive things.
Read it at HBO:
- Tons of little graphical fixes...explosions look better, the pistol zoom now has the same nifty blurring effect as the sniper zoom, skies on many missions were improved and there's a slew of geometry fixes just about everywhere you look. Other artists are adding detail to the levels with decals and objects...look for the bulletin board.- Chris Butcher continued to solidify the framerate and also taught the Jackals to use the overcharger on their plasma pistols. The Bear made vehicle-on-vehicle collisions work nicely. Jason insisted that I refrain from naming the CD he was listening to.
- Tyson claims to have subjected a voice actor to a horrible fiery death. Unfortunately I can't talk about the details until the statute of limitations runs out.
Thanks, Djof.

Matt stopped by and left a message saying that Bungie is considering a launch party for HALO. Chime your opinion on the bungie.net poll. The choice of cities currently is limited to New York and Chicago, but there is an option to let Bungie know that those locations wouldn't work for you. So if you are interested in this sort of thing, voice your opinion.
