Good comeback. You're really on top of this whole argument. Instead of dealing with the topic, you change it, just so you can be "RIGHT". The GameCube is a purple color. DAMN I'm right now, whatcha gonna do about it now Mr. Linkin? Talk about how grass is green or the sky is blue?

Yeah, the XBox is probably powerful enough to emulate the PS2. Don't expect it to happen though, MS won't even emulate Windows (which it owns ;-). MS's biggest fear with the XBox is seeing *any* other system run on their hardware, because then they couldn't make up the hardware sale loss with income from software licensing. Linux on XBox is a serious threat to MS's profit model.

Hmm, I seriously doubt an XBox could successfully emulate a PS2. They are so far removed architectually. As far as I know, the Sony CPU is a 128-bit MIPS...more specifically, it has two 64-bit integer ALUs and one 128-bit load/store unit. The two 64-bit ALUs can also be used in conjunction for 128-bit integer SIMD. On top of that, like all MIPS, the Emotion Engine is pretty standard RISC affair.
It packs a punch, and it's so far removed from x86 and PowerPC, that's why game developers are having trouble with it. Game developers are still having trouble harnessing the PS2's abilities.
There's simply no viable way a PC or XBox can emulate a PS2, not unless PCs suddenly become several times more powerful.
The GameCube also features such a multistep CPU, with 32-bit integer ALUs, 64-bit FPU ALUs, and 128-bit SIMD, all in a RISCy package.
All three console architectures are too different and powerful.

I did some quick checking and apparently he was discharged from Cape Cod Hospital on the 14th to the Rehab Center for the Cape & Islands (RHCI)... I left a message for the fam (whose number appears to be unlisted) to wish them well and see if they can tell us how Chia/Dave is doing.
As far as what we can do... well, much depends upon the insurance packages that Chia's family and/or school have for him.
It appears likely that the trucker and his trucking company can be held liable, for more than just "expenses"... but some donations of cash in the mean time might not be a bad idea. His family members are likely eating out a lot more, and spending less time at work. If any of them are on an hourly wage, then they'll be out of income for awhile.
If you guys are interested enough, I'll set up a PayPal account to accumulate the dough, and forward it to his family.
Prayer, if you're the God-fearing sort. Or whatever your particular spiritual leanings relate to... wave a crystal or something.
Cards... just grabbing a card to send out to his family. Or better yet, to the rehab center directly. It's such a simple thing, but it raises the morale of the family, the nurses and maybe even the patient, and positive emotions DO make for better healing. I've seen it myself. (since I'm a nurse)
If any of you know a good personal injury attorney in the area who isn't your typical ambulance-chasing scumbag, perhaps we can make a referral to Chia's family at some point. Narcogen can likely assist in this area, since he used to administer the website for the Massachusetts State Bar.
I'd be happy to hear any other ideres that you guys might have.
Um... damn, that is weird. I want to either say it's an error (i.e. someone juxtaposed names and ended up duping it) or a coincidence, but the possibility of some relation does exist. Which would be very strange.
I contacted the author, and this is what he told me over two e-mails:
No relation. Never met the guy before.
Actually, Gonsalves is a very common Cape Verdean last name. Kinda like Jones or Johnson is for white brothers and sisters.
Merry Christmas, Pastor. May God open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing.
PS: The CC Times has a strict policy that forbids reporters from reporting on family members in anything other than a column. Incestuous reporting is considered one of the gravest sins of commission in the business, according to the high priests of media.

What the... Last I checked, Cape Cod wasn't THIS weird.
Yes it can be, especially with the Cape Verdians. What I believe is happening here is that the good reporter sees the name "Noctavis", thinks in latin "Night Seer" and thinks "Pastor". I may be wrong, but my niece actually is a pastor in East Sandwich. I've been to her church, and believe me, it was a bit more than this stolid authoritarian right winger could bear. The word "wierd" just don't cut it. No offence to the folks down there, they probably think we're wierd.

Heh... I think they win the weirdness prize by virtue of living in a place named "East Sandwich", proximity to Salem, etc.... I personally don't like the East portion of the US nearly so much as the West as far as individuals' attitudes tend to go - a generalization, of course.

it's stunning how tragedies like this can affect people all across the world - I know that Chia is a well-known friend to almost everyone who's been involved with the myth community at one time or another. I'd like to offer up a heartfelt D: for him and his family.
noc or cat, do you have an address that we could send a token of our sympathy to? if so, please mail me - butcher@bungie.com
I know what with the anthrax scare these days, giving out an address on a public domain may not be the smartest idea, but if anyone has an address where I could send a card, possibly a small care package, to, please send me an email: MinuteMan@Mac.com
Chia has been a good friend to me. If the community comes up with an idea, I'm definitely in.
-Minute Man
No offense, and I'll try not to get too far off-topic, given the subject matter, but that seems like a bit of an excessively alarmist view...
How many thousands (millions?) of businesses, individuals and organizations have their own little "hey, we exist!" webpage with their address on it? Plenty.
There have only been around half a dozen deaths from anthrax, nationwide, and exposure has been to members of government and members of the media - they're attempting to create a panic (which I didn't think they were accomplishing so well) but we haven't seen any targeting of individual civilians thus far. Targeting a hospital, even more so than individual civilians, would be such a heinous crime - we could expect a much higher mortality rate from people who were already immune-compromised or attempting to heal from some other injury - that objections to us retaliating with nukes might become pretty thin. There is glaring audacity, there is unabiding hatred... and then there is pure, suicidal insanity.
In fact, the Pentagon is proposing a set of new low-yield deep-penetrating nukes, and may now have the political force to push clearance through proper governmental channels.
Anyway... I'm just saying that I wouldn't worry myself too much about such a possibility.

Chia, aka Dave Pindrys
My friend and fellow Myth community member, Chia (David Pindrys), was recently involved in a serious car accident. Driving home from school, he was struck head on by a truck.
He was in a coma for a week, and remains in the hospital with extended brain damage.
The news report can be found here:
http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/archives/2001/dec/1/teenseriously1.htm
I think we, as a community, should do something. But I'm not sure what.
Any ideas?

Small Update, & Ideas
In reply to: Chia, aka Dave PindrysI did some quick checking and apparently he was discharged from Cape Cod Hospital on the 14th to the Rehab Center for the Cape & Islands (RHCI)... I left a message for the fam (whose number appears to be unlisted) to wish them well and see if they can tell us how Chia/Dave is doing.
As far as what we can do... well, much depends upon the insurance packages that Chia's family and/or school have for him.
If you guys are interested enough, I'll set up a PayPal account to accumulate the dough, and forward it to his family.
I'd be happy to hear any other ideres that you guys might have.

Um... damn, that is weird. I want to either say it's an error (i.e. someone juxtaposed names and ended up duping it) or a coincidence, but the possibility of some relation does exist. Which would be very strange.

I personally don't like the East portion of the US nearly so much as the West as far as individuals' attitudes tend to go - a generalization, of course.

And we all know, all generalizations are false. (joke) Seriously, that church of my niece's was the only church I have ever walked out of in the middle of a service. If ppl on the west coast are wierd compared to them, then it's no surprise to me that the place is quaking all the time.

Beta testing Myth III and some other cool games I can't mention, sql programming for a couple myth community sites, posting nonsense in the forums and on myrgard.com (Chia's site), playing TFL on Mariusnet, playing MIII on crapspy, playing UT, Wolfenstein, raising 3 teenagers, working, shaving my scrotum, you know, the usual.

Re: Address for Cards/Letters?
In reply to: Re: Address for Cards/Letters?No offense, and I'll try not to get too far off-topic, given the subject matter, but that seems like a bit of an excessively alarmist view...
