Well, like I've said before, you'll know it's true when it comes from Bungie. Bungie has posted up a letter to its fans:

GameSpy informed us of an interview they've conducted with Ed Fries, Executive VP of Microsoft's Games Group. Among other things, Ed confirms that Halo will be coming to X-Box. The article also quotes Bungie's Alex Seropian on the future of PC and Mac gaming:

For some reason, the stories we linked to earlier from the Daily Radar were available through AltaVista, but not through Daily Radar's main page.

Kudos to Cannonball, who pointed out a CNet news report on Microsoft's purchase of Bungie. Clearly, Microsoft is comfirming their role in this, and some new information can be found in the article. An excerpt:

Bungie's Max Hoberman and Matt Soell have offered to conduct a public question and answer session on Rampancy HL today at 4:00pm CST, concerning the acquisition of Bungie by Microsoft.

Microsoft has apparently sent out its press release concerning the acquisition of Bungie. This statement copied from Blue's News:
