[image:4306 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0]In an HBO Forum thread, David "Evil Otto" Candland gave some info from his personal experience with the version of Halo for the Mac, currently in beta testing. Here's a quick rundown:
- Halo is very dependent on DX9, and as mentioned by Peter Tamte in an earlier interview done by HBO, the porting house (Westlake Interactive) is not using MacDX libraries, they are using custom libraries.
- The game is currently playable. Otto played it on a relatively low-level graphics card, a GeForce2MX.
- Evil Otto estimates the remaining work is mostly optimizations and compatibility issues.
- Westlake is apparently working on weekends.
- It seems as if some features that weren't working well on the PC at this same stage in development do work well on the Mac in OpenGL compared to on the PC in DirectX9.
- Evil Otto prefers Nvidia to ATI.
