That got me thinking. what if the flood infected hunters

after seeing Hunters at there full 9 feet with their little itty bitty head on that 12 inch neck, I shocked. and a little bemused ;-)
but when I started trying to talk to people about this (in rl) no one had ever seen it. so I was wondering how many of YOU all had seen it. the easiest place to see them is on the last level after going through the tunnels(there was a technical name for them) and there is a room with a purple grunt and a window. through that window you'll see the Hunters come down after while.
when Hunters aren't being attacked, they tend to every so often stand straight up, and stick their head out to have a look around.
no one happens to have a picture of this do they? it'd be nice to prove that I'm not crazy ;-)
I've seen this before as well. Another good place to see it is on the assault on the control room. Where you go across the indoor bridge with the tank. Get out of the tank and look across the chasm with a sniper rifle, and watch the hunters. Actually, that'd probably be a good time to shoot them in the neck.
You're not crazy. Spend any amount of time watching Hunters when they don't see you and aren't fighting and they will do this.
If, for instance, you use one of the tricks to climb atop Silent Cartographer, you can look down on them above the entrace to the map room, and they'll do it every few minutes or so.
It exposes more vulnerable areas-- they can be killed by a pistol or sniper shot anywhere there is a break in the armor, including the neck.

Has anyone else ever found 'dopey' hunters? I'm sure it's just a little glitch in the game but sometimes they don't seem to notice you at first even if you walk right up in front of them. Then they suddenly realise you're there and act normally. I saw that at the end of 'Assualt on the Control Room' justafter the wraith, before you climb up the building to the control room itself.
I keep seeing people talking about these, but I don't actually know how to do them. If you can help with these, thanks very much! I was just wondering, how do you get on top of the Silent Cartographer? And are there any other things like that you can do?

I got up there recently. It's pretty easy, if you do it in co-op. Just go up the "path to the interior of the island", clear it out, then take a warthog up the path. Just out of sight of the silo, there's a rock next to the lowest part of the cliff on the left side. Drive the warthog so it's wedged between the wall and the rock. Now, get your co-op buddy on top of the jeep, hop on top of him, and jump out of the canyon. If you want to do it in single player, I can't help you....
I also got a jeep up there, and drove it off the front of the main building.
Ryan formerly Dallon wrote on Friday, 09/13/2002 - 4:42 am:
: Thanks for that, Squeaky Waffle. Here's another
: question-how do you get the two banshees in the Assault on
: the Control Room?
There are at least two I know of that you can steal.
The first is in the part where you get the Scorpion. Behind that location, high above you, there's a banshee on a platform.
If you advance too far towards the far end of the level, towards the ramp that leads down into the rest of the level, the banshee will be triggered-- and once it's triggered, you can't steal it.
The trick is to clear out the level and use either the tank's gun (difficult) or the rocket launcher (easier) to dislodge it. This is easier if you find a high spot (like atop the tank gun while elevated while the tank is propped up at a high point... shoot towards the platform, near the right side.
A hit in just the right spot will knock the banshee off the platform, unpiloted, and allow you to get in it.
In fact, if you use it to advance through the rest of the level, you quickly reach a point where there are no more enemies, and so it isn't even necessary to "steal" the second banshee.
If you don't do that, the second banshee can be stolen this way:
Before the land bridge above the control room pyramid, there's a room with 2 hunters, and before that a long hallway with invisible elites. There is an active camo in that room.
Get it, run by the hunters, jump over the grunts/jackals in the hallway, and make a dash for the banshee. Depending on the timing, you may need to use a rocket to take out the Elite that runs for the Banshee (careful, don't knock it off the bridge!)
If you do it right, the active camo runs out just as you reach the banshee and you can take off in it.
Thanks very much for that. But you don't have to have the active camo to get the second one, one lower difficulties you can just make a run for it or run and shoot the elite with the rocket launcher. On higher ones, you'll get mashed, though. The easiest way is to bring the sniper rifle with you. When you get to the bridge, shoot the elite by it quickly. However, another may get in, so go as quickly as you can. I don't know if that happens, but they freely jump into ghosts and shades, so I imagine it would.
You wont get smashed on legendary, just throw a frag at each side of the platform near the grunts and jackals, kill the blue elite, then dahs for the banshee while shoot the red elite. its really not that hard.

There are lots of things like that you can do. The best single collection of them all is in the Tips and Tricks section of halo.bungie.org.
As for SC-- there are a few ways to get to the "top" of the level where you're not really intended to go.
In the narrow pass that leads up towards the entrance to the security station, there are a few methods you can use:
In the first, you can rocket jump from a rock or warthog to the top of the level where the distance is shortest (2/3 of the way towards the top of the level).
If you bring 2 warthogs up into the pass with you, you can use grenades to "stack" them and climb up the pile to the top.
In certain circumstances (I forget which, exactly) if you return to this area after hitting the security terminal but BEFORE using the map room, there's a dropship waiting at this location. If you kill all the Jackals it drops off, you can use a warthog to drive up next to it, jump from it, to the dropship, to the structure at the center of the top of the level.
It's easiest to do that in co-operative mode. Do you know how to do a warthog jump? Gte the other player to stand up there and blast a warthog up there. Once it lands get them to get into the driver's seat and brake so it doesn't slide over the edge.
Official Xbox magazine has a section on their coverdisks where they show footage people haev recorded of their ultimate warthog jumps on the silent cartographer (and other levels occasionally). Some of them are staggering.
Have you ever noticed how some of the Covenant species have varying skin colours like we do? There are jackals that are a sort of dark brown but there are others that are almost black. Also if you look closely at the elite's chests you can see exposed skin. Blue and red elites have scaly blueish skin but the silver and gold ones which are arguably higher ranking have black skin. Maybe there's some kind of racial divide between them?
there is if ya read the fall of reach ya would know dis. it's a good book. yea the covvie are more of an allience of aliens. bent on wipin us out. woohoo

I always thought it might have been some indication of rank. There does seem (at least to me) to be a difference on how difficult it is to kill certain units based on color.
There do seem to be some differences in armament. For instance, in the last two levels when you start seeing black elites and black grunts, the black grunts are using fuel rod guns like the Hunters have, and I think that only black grunts have this weapon, although I might be mistaken on that.
I also seem to remember that some grunts can be meleed to death with a single hit, but that others take 2-3-- again, I always thought it was associated with color.

Yeah I have noticed that more special ops covies start popping up in the later levels, if on Keys when you are on the covie bridge when the flood pour in to the room and the special ops come in, if you run down there you can see all the covies in a perfect battle formation.
But I would like to see some more groups like that in Halo 2!

The special ops covenants on "keys" are as follows
A 2-1-1-2-2 formation
Two Grunts at the front with Needlers that open fire with Plasma Grenades
One grunt with a big green gun* behind them
One Elite with a Plasma Rifle behind him
Then two Elites behind him with more Plasma Rifles
Then behind then at the rear are two more grunts with more big green guns...
Conclusion... they blow each other up! Waste of time!
*Big green guns I don’t know the name of. Anyone know the official name?
Also this may vary depending on difficulty.. I’m not sure.
Those 'special ops' Covenant are strange. As you said they first appear right at the end of 'Keyes' and they're all over the last level. They all wear black armour and the black elites are seriously tough; I think they can take a point-blank shotgun blast on higher difficulties and not die. They throw grenades as well! They sort of bowl them underarm like a cricket player sometimes does. They're aim's good as well. TOO good!
In Keys, when you find captain keys' mutated body, Flood warriors and carriers start coming out of two doorways on one wall, both going to the same hallway. They come endlessly, as long as you're outside the doors, but if you go in, they don't come, and it seems as though there's none in there. Meanwhile, at another door over on an adjacent wall, there's tons of special ops covenant troops. Well, what I did when I played this mission, I ran up to the covenant door, right when the cutscene ended, and chunked a plasma grenade into the hallway full of black and silver elites, grunts, and even hunters (you know, just to shake up the hornett's nest a little bit ;-) ) then I ducked into the doorway, that flood warriors were already pouring out of (I had to blast through them with my shotgun), and finally, once inside, I peered through the doorway and watched the massacre, as both sides collided. Every now and then, when it looked like the covies were about to wipe em all out, I stepped out of the hallway to trigger more flood reinforcements, and then ducked back in.
I must say, in the entire game, that was the scarriest, strangest, hardest, cheesiest, yet funnest part. =)

The best guesses I saw were that he was some kind of Brain-flood, perhaps coordinating or controlling the others. Perhaps the Flood recognized that as Captain he had valuable information, and so turned him into that rather than a Combat form. Anybody's guess, really.

Now, get your co-op buddy on top of the jeep, hop on top of him, and jump out of the canyon. If you want to do it in single player, I can't help you....
I also got a jeep up there, and drove it off the front of the main building.

Re: Some things I want to know
In reply to: Re: Some things I want to knowThanks very much for that.

Re: Some things I want to know
In reply to: Re: Some things I want to knowYou wont get smashed on legendary, just throw a frag at each side of the platform near the grunts and jackals, kill the blue elite, then dahs for the banshee while shoot the red elite. its really not that hard.

1) rocket jump
2) warthog "stacking"
3) dropship jumping

Re: Some things I want to know
In reply to: Re: Some things I want to knowIt's easiest to do that in co-operative mode. Do you know how to do a warthog jump? Gte the other player to stand up there and blast a warthog up there. Once it lands get them to get into the driver's seat and brake so it doesn't slide over the edge.

Skin Colours
Have you ever noticed how some of the Covenant species have varying skin colours like we do? There are jackals that are a sort of dark brown but there are others that are almost black. Also if you look closely at the elite's chests you can see exposed skin. Blue and red elites have scaly blueish skin but the silver and gold ones which are arguably higher ranking have black skin. Maybe there's some kind of racial divide between them?

Re: Skin Colours
In reply to: Skin ColoursI always thought it might have been some indication of rank.

Re: Skin Colours
In reply to: Re: Skin ColoursThose 'special ops' Covenant are strange. TOO good!

Re: Skin Colours
In reply to: Re: Skin ColoursIn Keys, when you find captain keys' mutated body, Flood warriors and carriers start coming out of two doorways on one wall, both going to the same hallway.
