Oni Breaker is an interesting project created by Pierre Terdiman. He wants to take the best parts of Oni and Max Payne and combine them into a single game. There actual screen shots!. Check out what he has done so far. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to check out what's new; there is also a new demo.
Oni Central also has updated their exclusive images section with some treats. Go and check it out!
In a rare news post, Oni Central has added new pieces of fan art and fan fiction. If you're still looking for an Oni fix, this is your lucky day.
Locke130 wrote and submitted a complete Oni walkthrough to GameFAQs this past weekend. Although most people who were interested in Oni have already beaten the game, it's nice to see interest still thrives among its fans.
Gamers.com recently covered a story on a new Grand Theft Auto game that will be released later this year. That's fine and dandy, but the interesting part of the article is the end, which says:
Take-Two plans on launching new brands, as well as extend its current ones such as Max Payne, Smuggler's Run, Serious Sam, Austin Powers and Oni.
Now there HAD been rumors of an Oni sequel that began hitting Internet pages shortly after it was released back in 1999, but there hasn't been any new information since then. This is no sort of confirmation that there will be an Oni sequel, but it does give us something to speculate on. (Thanks Oni Central)
Shacknews reader Walter Sochak (whether that is his real name or a homage to John Goodman's character in The Big Lebowski I'm not sure) has submitted a reader review of Oni. Here's what he had to say in part:
A lot of people will have problems with the save game system, but I found it added to the replay value. The game makes saves at regular intervals that are, from then onwards, always available to the player. That means its easy to go back and play through levels where you had the most fun. Speaking of replay value, check out http://gamespot.com/gamespot/guides/pc/oni/p6_01.html . Once you've defeated the game, you can use the cheats - one of my favourites allows you to play as characters other than Konoko. Playing through the TCTF assault level as a Tanker and Fury is a refreshing change from Konoko's moves. If you feel like playing through the game with guns a-blazing, then use cheats to give yourself your weapon of choice, unlimited ammo and faster-firing weapons and go for it. Or you can flick on slow-motion to get an extreme edge of absolute control.
The review is short (and the author misspells Bungie in the usual manner) but hey... Oni doesn't get much press these days.
The Game Of The Year Awards have begun over at GameSpy and they are allowing you and me to vote for our favorite games. As far as this community is concerned, Oni is a candidate in PC action, Myth III in PC strategy, and Halo in Xbox game of the year. You have until December 23 to make your selections.
Kudos to IMG for reporting that Oni Save Game Editor has been open-sourced at iDevGames. Tobias Opfermann, OSGE's author, wants the project to be continued and feels that open-sourcing the application is the best way to do so.
The released code is of version 1.5, which isn't the latest completed version.
MacDesktops has a nice new Oni desktop image available in eleven different resolutions.
