A word from those behind the BattleWatch service, which tracks Myth and Myth II games via WWW:
After 2 months as a simple listing service, Project Magma has fleshed out their web-based BattleWatch game finder to incorporate news, a forum and real-time chat at bw.projectmagma.net.After months of investigating existing real-time chat options, an IRC-based Java applet was selected that provided greatest compatibility and functionality. IRC users are also able to use dedicated clients to get into the #BattleWatch channel via the IRC server irc.accessirc.net. Instructions are available at the BattleWatch site.
News and design was kindly supplied by one of TFL's most community-active orders 'Mything In Action' http://www.m-i-a.net/ under the guidance of MIA's DeadMan and Evil, with server and networking implementation from Losk of the SJ order.
This communications web-hub completes stage two of a three stage plan set by Project Magma in April this year. While game detection has so far escaped the group, future revisions of the BattleWatch service will continue to explore this facility.
Entries continue to roll in for Project Magma's Return of The Fallen Lords II: TOTAL CARNAGE tournament, http://projectmagma.net.net/rotfl2/. With highly sought-after collectibles for the winners, tons of swag for the lucky and some very interesting people to play with in this Bungie-backed tournament, RoTFL2 is tipped to be the social highpoint of TFL this year.
Good stuff, especially since bungie.net (TFL) is still offline. BattleWatch has been around for a while and works very well. If you are looking for a game, it's always a good source of active games.
Looking forward to Marathon Resurrection? Look forward no further:
July 25th, 2001, Team Unpfhorgiven is pleased to release the first public beta test of its MOD for Unreal Tournament, Marathon: Resurrection. ( http://resurrection.bungie.org ) Marathon: Resurrection is based off of the 1994 Mac-only first-person shooter classic, Marathon, developed by Bungie Software, Inc. Marathon: Resurrection recreates the Marathon environment using the capabilities of Unreal Tournament's graphics engine to the fullest, complete with a full, 3D world and fully-animated 3D weapons. Marathon physics and gameplay have been recreated and enhanced where the team thought that the result would be improved gameplay. Marathon: Resurrection is now available for download, free of cost, from the evihcra.com mirrors. More mirrors will follow in approximately one week. The public beta is multi-player only. Single player is present, but it is not meant to be playable at this stage. Team Unpfhorgiven is currently working on a single-player MOD, and it will be released in the future.Marathon: Resurrection is the result of over a year-and-a-half's hard work, and Team Unpfhorgiven is extremely pleased with the result. More information on Marathon and its sequels, Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity, can befound at http://marathon.bungie.org/story. Visit the Marathon: Resurrection website at http://resurrection.bungie.org for updates to Marathon: Resurrection.
With this, a third Terminal has been added to the site. Anyway, get downloading; you won't regret it!
The Bungie Store is addressing issues that prevent completions from Macintosh computers and international orders. As a result, the store is temporarily closed. Bungie assures that when the new site goes live, these problems will be fixed and there will be new merchandise available.
In addition to this, anyone who registers for the new Bungie Store will have a chance to win a scupture of a Covenant Elite Trooper forged by Juan Ramirez. If this interests you, go sign up.
There is a thread in the FutureMyth forum that discusses some of the items included in GameSpy's latest Myth III article, which includes new screenshots and movies of character animations. A bit down in the thread, Orlando the Axe says that iggy popped claims that players will be able to design their own logos for use online. Santa's Head has a tip for you:
For those of you wanting to plan ahead, the logos will need to be 64x64 RGBA files. There are a few other particulars, but that will get you going for now.
I believe this is something that Bungie had planned to include in Myth II, but were not able to. The more customization allowed for the player, the better.
Strategy Planet had shared a few words with Tim Beggs, Producer for Myth II: Green Berets. Snip:
Dragon: Do the missions have any replay value?Beggs: Absolutely!! For one, the missions are fun, so it's a blast to just play them through over and over to try different plans of attack, trying to keep all of your men alive and so on. Many missions have a certain amount of randomness that is dependent upon the difficulty. Additionally, there is more challenge with the different difficulties since it adds considerably more enemies. The game has plenty of replay value, especially when you factor in multiplayer. And if that's not enough, it includes Myth II. If you haven't played it before you have another game to play.
The interview also includes some new screenshots, so don't miss it.
Head over to the Marathon Resurrection website to find a new desktop image, Audion face and Terminal II.
