The reviewer for 3DAvenue liked Halo pretty well. They gave it an 87 rating, and said it "defines FPS action."
Their complaints were different from the standard ones; the lack of "nonlinear action" seem to bother them a lot, but I think this is a function of just having played through the game once. They seem not to have noticed that, having played through each level once, one may access it again at one's leisure. True nonlinear action isn't found in the campaign mode of any recent shooter I'm aware of.
