Kevin Jones at ConsoleDomain is reporting that sales of Nintendo GameCube games, consoles and accessories totalled $98 million its first weekend:
The Nintendo GameCube also became the top videogame launch of 2001 with preliminary hardware sales doubling that of Microsoft's Xbox. And with Nintendo America reportedly shipping a total of 1.1 million units by Christmas, it looks like Nintendo are heading for a very succesful festive season.
We're going to keep looking for confirmation of this from alternative sources; we don't know where the sales figures are coming from, exactly, and it's very early in the product cycle for both of these consoles to be calling anybody the winner of 2001 just yet.
