  2. Funcom jumps Xbox ship

Wed, 08/08/2001 - 15:54 by narcogen

Well, in a (small) reversal of the trend that Microsoft has been touting since the announcement of their next generation console machine, one developer is shutting down their Xbox development operations in order to focus on... get this.... PC games.According to this story on xbox.ign.com, Funcom, the developers of the massively multiplayer game Anarchy Online have ceased their console operations. They cite a Funcom press release as saying the company has moved out of development for the Xbox video game system .It's not going too far to speculate that the decision might have something to do with recent reports that the Xbox's network gaming features will not be available at launch, since Funcom focuses on multiplayer games. Funcom has worked extremely hard to establish itself in the massively multi-player online market, said Funcom President Andre Backen to IGN, and this is where we have our strength.
