An excellent question. Early Monday morning, my former host Gamestats not only pulled the plug on the Core, but entirely removed my home directory from their server. It wasn't until I asked for my valued news data files and forum archives to be returned that I learned the story behind the termination.
In short, the Core was removed from Gamestats for being a malicious site. In what seemed to be a willfull misunderstanding, a few joking comments were twisted into calls to do Gamestats harm, and as such the site was terminted with considerable prejudice. Fortunately, I had been expecting to be removed for not abiding by new advertising policies, and was in part ready to move to a new server. Still, I found it hard to believe that after nearly two years of service I would be so promptly and unceremoniously canned for suggesting that I would bring down their downloads server with the massive bandwidth of my 33.6 modem. Though my last request was granted, it was accompanied by rather ironic accusations of unprofessionalism... heavens forbid I should not run a sterile and impersonal site.
Sigh.
I had hoped to maintain good relations with Gamestats, but alas, that hardly seems likely now. Nevertheless, one must continue moving forward, and I wish my former fellow affiliates all the best, even if I must wish select members of their management would pull those [censored] out of their [censored] [censored]. Cheers!
