Halo 3 players XxFLAWxLESSxX, Rockout514, and lxjarh34dxl recreated the very first ever Halo screenshot using the Halo 3 engine. Lukemsposted it up at Bungie.net, along with the old shot for comparison.
Man, that looks pretty tight, and it always makes me kinda sad when I see that big ol' minigun. They should have kept it in the first one, dangit. The warthog looks like sh** though. :)
Looking at it closer when you said that, I could see where the argument could lead in that too. I see something forming, but Not a really exact visual.

Some of us spent days arguing about whether or not you could see a face in the visor of the Spartan manning the Warthog's gun.
