Destiny apparently takes place within humanity's home solar system. The lack of more distant locations would seem to indicate that humanity lacks faster than light travel in this universe at this point in time, definitely dividing it from the Halo universe, where humanity achieved FTL travel earlier.

The apparently lack of FTL or colonies in other solar systems may or may not distinguish it from the Marathon universe, but even if the chronology is not necessarily mutually exclusive, the absence of any mention of contact with other extraterrestrial races before the invasion of Tau Ceti by the Pfhor would also seem to confirm that this is an entirely new universe without any connections to Marathon or Halo except thematic ones.
