Kapowaz over in the DBO forum summarized the feature on Destiny from Edge Magazine. It seems the game will feature named weapon drops, like Borderlands, as well as weapon models generated procedurally from ingredients, perhaps like the weapon mod system from Mass Effect.
The article seems to soft pedal the possibility for solo play, kapowaz says, even though it has been recently confirmed that players will not be forced to play coop if they don't want to.

Re: Tidbits From The Edge Magazine
That seems to suggest a totally different game to the one that is being sold by Bungie which it seemed to me was predicated upon its capacity to incorporate players into each others' games, in any case a game with enough content to last ten years must require some internet connectivity. Any offline version must be severely limited so it's a shame that they haven't just gone one way or the other, offline with multi-player elements or online with harder enemies a game that caters for both will be easy to best online with friends or worse it will be better to play alone.

There's not going to be an offline version. Destiny will require a constant Internet connection. Bungie has confirmed that you can play solo if you wish, however, but not offline, apparently. Given that Bungie still tends to develop good campaign content, and not just multiplayer, I think a solo player will still get as good a game as we got with Halo.
I think Destiny will be a good solo experience; it's not going to be Halo Tournament. That's just my speculation, of course, but given how much emphasis the top guys at Bungie put on story (Jones, Staten, etc) I don't think the game will be weak without coop, it'll just be better with coop-- the way Halo is, but the coop will work better.
