I think Halo 2: Homeworld sounds good. It has been kicking around boards for the past few days. Considering Halo 2 will take place on at least Earth it sounds good to me. There is also a possibility(quite small) that Master Chief will go to one of the Covanent Homeworlds. That would also fall in line with that subtitle.
Matt S. on HBO suggested "Combat Rewound", where you play the whole first game backwards. :)

Maye they won't actually call it Halo at all? After all, the sequel is set on earth and has nothing to with the Halos. Maybe it'll have a new name with "the sequel to Halo" as a subtitle.

Anyway, I think it would be cool with the subtitle "war of earth
Here is the perfect place to comment on the stoy of both Halos. Who were the forces alluded to in Combat Evolved, but never met... What is Guilty Spark?
Some things to discuss
I think GS is just an AI left behind by the Forerunners/Jjaro to help guard Halo and the Flood.
I think "Reclaimer" is also supposed to be an AI (or a cyborg) with a specific role to play in the event of an outbreak (GS is the brains, Reclaimer is the brawn).
I think the Flood can survive in isolation in some form probably for a long time. Howeer, it's obvious that such a large structure as Halo, with varied terrain and weather, was NOT meant just to store something like Flood infection forms in tiny little rooms buried under the surface.
The whole point of the thing to me seems to be a closed environment where the Forerunners could scientifically observe dangerous races like the Flood interacting with other races in controlled circumstances in a wide variety of settings. Of course, this scenario does NOT include Human and Covenant ships crashing into it and releasing the Flood unexpectedly, leading to a risk of them escaping.
With no mention of the Flood (only Covenant) so far in Halo 2 materials, I'm guessing that:
1) Halo 2 will take place at least in part on another Halo
2) That Halo will contain some other dangerous race, but not Flood.
I think MC will turn out to have played the role of Reclaimer once before, but in a future timeline that goes into the past of the first game's ring, but this won't happen until the third game. Think Marathon Infinity :)
I think possible Rampancy for Cortana started out as a story factor and then got eliminated-- the only trace of it remaining is her aggressive attitude when inside the Core, which seems to go away the minute she's out.
I think GS is a better candidate for Rampancy.

Maybe with a second ring in the middle. Or maybe no ring at all.
After all, "Marathon" remained in the title of the Marathon games long after the "Marathon" itself was no longer one of the settings.
ok everybody here is SHIBBYS THOUGHTS ON HALO 2's STORY: ok one i think my theory is correct but i dont kno about the WHOLE game... so here it goes. i found a picture at halo.bungi.org under wallpaper on the second to last link,(its number 43) and this is a picture of a planet on fire and a covinant cruiser shooting a beam at the surface. if all of u have read THE FALL OF REACH u would know this is what the covinant do to destroy a planet, its called glassing. any ways in the pic u see a ship that is dammaged buy plasma fire. this ship looks lyk somthing we have seen before and i have identified it to be a longsword fighter JUST lyk the one MC used to get off HALO . and in the book MC wanted to save his fellow spartans so i think he goes back to rescue them. in another pic u seen a planet on fire and about to explode and a bunch of ships escaping . i think this exploding planet is reach and the ships r the MC and his spartans and they r heading into space and off in a corner is a small picture of earth so i think that they go back to earth or somthing. .... i dont kno much about marathon but its sounds lyk they really might be a sort of a prequel to halo..... PS:Army Of One, if u have the trailer send it to me PLZ
I think before you post your silly ponderings on the web you should use logic before a forum. You think the Halo ring was some guy at bungies imagination? Of course not, the whole thing is based on an old Hugo-Nebula winning novel called Ringworld by Larry Niven. I could answer alot of your questions just from reading the book because 99% of the whole ring part of "Halo" is straight from the book. For instance the next Halo as you said will either be on another Halo assuring us that the game will be just as fun to explore, or, bungie ran out of idea's and were going to playing Brute Force with Master Chief. The original book idea was for a ring approx. 300 million times the area of Earth, encircling the sun and orbiting at about 770 mi/sec. As you can obviously see the game did some major scaling down. I'm not going to spoil the book for you if you want to read but if you have any questions concerning anything just post it and I'll answer it.

Not true. Bungie stated very early on in Halo's development that it is NOT based on Niven's novel, and in fact about the only thing they share is the idea of a ringworld. The stories and characters themselves bear no resemblance whatsoever.

No, it was just a different concept. Niven's ringworld encircled a sun. Bungie's ringworld encircles a LaGrange point. All of this was discussed nearly two years ago.

It's certainly a good book, and I'd suggest reading it, too-- but about the only thing the two works have in common is the idea of a spinning ring with a livable surface inside. That's it.

If you havent, u ppl should all read the 'Culture' sci-fi novels by Iain M Banks. They mostly have ringworlds like halo in them and they nearly all have cunning drones similar to GS. GS's character reminds me of some of the more evil drones from the novels.
Not having read 'ringworld' I cant comment on your assesment, the size of halo in the Banks series is certainly a lot closer compared to your 300 million X area of earth.
Does the plot of Ringworld have any direct links to that of Halo?

Actually, only a couple of the Banks' novels (which came long after Niven's) feature ringworlds prominently, most notably Consider Phlebas. The protagonist of Player of Games lives on one, although that novella is not set there.
:
: Not having read 'ringworld' I cant comment on your

Yes. Because Niven's ring surrounds a star-- in essence, it is as wide across in diameter as the orbit of the Earth.
In Banks and Halo, it's a much smaller structure.
In Halo, it circles a LaGrange point between the planet (Basis) and its moon (Threshold).
:
: Does the plot of Ringworld have any direct links to that
: of Halo?
To be honest, no, not at all. There is, against the backdrop of Niven's novel, a conflict between various interstellar species... but in the realm of science fiction that's hardly a similarity.
To expose the central point of Ringworld would be to spoil a good novel, so I won't do it :)

True, but not really a breakthrough. It's been a pretty wide assumption that there were other halos, from those 2 comments and other information.
What's a more common question is whether or not these other Halos will play a role in the story or not. The trend seem to be people think it will be set on Earth. Me, I'm not sure.
Other Halos don't have to be involved-- after all, they kept the title "Marathon" in that series long after the UESC colony ship was no longer a setting.

By the look of one of the wallpapers it shows the Master Chief on a background of earth after it has been glassed(the covenant fires plasma at the planet and destroyes everything on it)so i think halo 2 will be a story based around the covenant finding earth and the master chief finding the covenant homeworld and taking revenge for the loss of earth and reach.

"The Fall of Reach" is a Halo prequel novel, authorized by MS/Bungie and written by Eric Nylund.
: Who are spartans?
Spartans are the cyborgs. The Master Chief is (supposedly) the last of these.
: How did U find out about that 'glassing' stuff?
It's mentioned in "Fall of Reach". It is what happens to that planet.
Dash is tottaly right:
:what is fall of reach?
I didn't know! heres more to answer:
Where can you buy "Halo: Comat Evolved" the book?
How much books are there?
Dash is wrong, he is a total nOOb,
Is "The Pillar of Autumn" a covenant ship, it isn't! then why do you blow it up on "The Maw"?
Where do "The Flood" come from, what are they! If you think i'm a nOOb then just think again, I have the volume low too!
Ok picture this Your in this room, and your trying to take out the Covenant, when all odds seem dead. It shows and alien coming to kill you with like a sword, then BAM to the ground, another MC comes in and helps you up. After him follow MC of all sizes, women, big men, small skinny men. Ect. From there on they are your "marines"
If we do go to another Halo, I want to see what Halo was, you know what Im talking about, Rockets on cars, animals, walking in this organic world, Hills upon Hills, that hold secrets and Structures, very open, the old sketches of the alien tank, you know the one where if you look close enough you will realize that the gun on that tank is the gun turret IN halo. Things that you can just look at and say.......shit...... (sun through the trees, pixel shaded bump mapping)
Oh yea, and did anyone realize that the marines that are "dead" are not really dead!?! Ok 2nd level, everyones "dead" grab your hand gun snipe on one of the guys eyes inside the escape pod, and you can see his eye is moving back and forth.... scary :) Mrguy45@hotmail.com to know more

In Halo one the weapons were pretty good with a few exceptions. In the screen shot you see the new asault rifle, well I think they should add a grenade launcher on that. And then add a hand heald heavy machine gun.
Also I think they should add a human aircraft you can fly and a motorcycle.

Well, since grenade throwing is available with any weapon, this might not be worth it unless it could throw them a really long distance...

Those would be neat... how about just including the Longsword as a pilotable vehicle? That'd be neat...

Re: thoughts on Story
In reply to: thoughts on StoryHmmm... let's see.

PS:Army Of One, if u have the trailer send it to me PLZ

You Should Have Read the Book
In reply to: Re: thoughts on StoryI think before you post your silly ponderings on the web you should use logic before a forum.

I'm not going to spoil the book for you if you want to

"The Fall of Reach" is a Halo prequel novel, authorized by MS/Bungie and written by Eric Nylund.

Spartans are the cyborgs. The Master Chief is (supposedly) the last of these.

How much books are there?
Dash is wrong, he is a total nOOb,

Where do "The Flood" come from, what are they! If you think i'm a nOOb then just think again, I have the volume low too!

Re: thoughts on Story.... Want to know somthing else?
In reply to: thoughts on StoryOk picture this Your in this room, and your trying to take out the Covenant, when all odds seem dead.
Ok 2nd level, everyones "dead" grab your hand gun snipe on one of the guys eyes inside the escape pod, and you can see his eye is moving back and forth.... scary :)

More or less. The only thing anyone will say is "4th Quarter 2003". Our unofficial countdown, which at the moment reads "449 days" is based on the assumption that Halo 2 will come out in plenty of time for Christmas shopping and 2 years to the day after Halo 1: November 15, 2003.

Stuff I wanna see in Halo 2
In Halo one the weapons were pretty good with a few exceptions. In the screen shot you see the new asault rifle, well I think they should add a grenade launcher on that. And then add a hand heald heavy machine gun.
Also I think they should add a human aircraft you can fly and a motorcycle.
