This is my first post on rampancy, though I've been a long time fan of the website, I just recently created an account. One thing on my mind, is that I've been wondering what Bungie's next project will be. I'm sure loads of people are wondering. When Frankie was asked if Halo 3 would be the end of the Halo story, he was quoted saying "It will end this story arc." But what does that mean? Will there be a new game with the Master Chief? They can't just leave Master Chief floating in space can they?
Another option I was wondering about is whether they will bring Marathon back. Personally, I would love to see that happen. A Marathon game that feels like Halo.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
I love Marathon about as much as anybody, but I tend to think that would be a bit redundant. While there are cosmetic and thematic differences, the two games share an awful lot of content.
Also, one of the things I like best about Marathon is the text terminals. A Marathon game without them wouldn't really be Marathon, and somehow I doubt Bungie would do a game primarily driven by such terminals (although I do like their use in Halo 3).
Whatever Bungie has decided to do (or perhaps they've yet to decide) I think it'll be a while before we find out. Bungie might leave the Chief out there and come back to him later, or else they might not. Maybe they will dive right into Halo 4, maybe they won't.
My only speculation about why Bungie was able to go independent again was because Bungie wanted to become a larger, two-team studio and work on non-Halo games, whereas MS wanted a guaranteed Halo team and didn't want to increase their risk. With an independent Bungie, someone else assumes the risk of that 2nd team, while MS continues to reap the benefits of Halo (as long as there are any). And if there aren't any more hit games like Halo, well, then it's not Microsoft's problem, as they aren't paying the bills anymore.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?I agree. I think Bungie does want to do non-Halo games. And a Marathon game without text terminals....just wouldn't feel like Marathon. One part of me wants to see Bungie create something new, exciting, fresh, and epic just like playing through the first Halo felt. At the same time, I wish they would stick with a sure thing and keep doing the Halo franchise. And also, I feel that if they were to quit doing Halo games, even if it was only for a couple of years, they shouldn't leave us on a cliffhanger like that...

In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?I think Bungie is gonna stick with the Master Chief but also stick to their word and end the Halo trilogy. I hope they will continue the Master Chief and Cortana's story but just as a different series.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?well...i think that if bungie makes a new game, its probably going to be either a new Marathon game that is up to the current generation, or maybe even a side-stroy to halo, like from a percpective of another character. Heck, even if they do make a new game, i'm pretty sure that its gonna be real good.

Dude, i'm not the best speller in the world by a long shot. Heck, i don't know what i'd do with out the google tool bar spell check. But....."selevs", "dose", "half" (which is spelled correctly but out of context), "dam". All of those words are wrong. Where the hell did you go to school?! Even the marines in the game spell correctly! Anyway sorry for the rant, it's nothing personal. BTW, I agree. Halo 4 is next up for bungie.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
Agreed. I think Bungie's split with Microsoft is pretty much proof that there will not be a Halo 4 (at least not one developed by Bungie). And from a development standpoint, the Halo trilogy allowed Bungie to do all that there was left to do with the Marathon games, so I don't think that there is any reason for them to revisit that series either. Bungie's games are a diverse lineup, and I think their next game will be something completely new and unexpected and, of course, totally awesome.

I think (hope) that we will know if there will be a Halo 4 after Halo Wars happens. I know Halo Wars is way before Halo CE but maybe it will give us a glimse at what Halo 4 might be.

HOLY CRAP!?... Halo 4 could be a prelude to Halo:CE!!! (or a game that came before Halo:CE)
that just seems to me like exactly what bungie would be doing! because they brought in the old vehicles and weapons like the spiker and chopper in halo 3!! anyone else think that could be right??

Bungie doesn't own the rights to ONI. Neither does Microsoft. Take Two took them as part of compensation for their 19.9% of Bungie when Microsoft bought them in 2000.

In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?there isnt going to be a halo 4 bungie makes that perfectly clear i there poscasts and on bnet. but i do think that there is going to be another game with master chief. if youve read the halo books and if youve seen the video after the credits after beating legendary on halo three you would know what that object in the back ground was and that it would not be a halo game get your facts straight people.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?since they killed all the heroes of the halo trilogy but kept chief and cortana alive they will probably do a new story for it. it will take place in a different time and different enemies. i doubt they would want to change the gameplay or get rid of chief since they are making tons of money off it

Qeustion: who got rights to halo and all affiliated logos and such, Bungie or Microsoft?
Also I seriously doubt this but battlefronthalo, think of it there could be different classes (eg. Grunts elites brutes hunters) and for space battles (crap now im drooling) the ships are pretty much already spelled out. We can dream; or we can make it on halo custom edeition Huh Huh?

Microsoft now owns all the rights to Halo. Probably the exception would be the soundtrack rights, because I think O'Donnell and Salvatori held those separately even when Bungie owned Halo (and MS owned Bungie).

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
halo is a trilogy, like a seris of a movies, but uslly each movie gets worse. We kind of saw that though the three halos. As the mulitplayer took over campiagn in halo 2, Bungie seemed to get deep into the story and almost made more story telling than game play in halo 3. Now bungie realizes that its all about the Forge and matchmakeing and people really dont give a shit about there years of hard work campaign they cant go to next volume to the story, and upseting the people who like campiagn. bungie will keep the contsent updates and new maps but they well look some were else. possable back into marathon with the many logos and objects in halo. But i feel that Bungie will shot for the game of the yaer award or the game everone knows about or plays. my hope would be that it could find its way into the modern warfar like call of duty or frontlines. But what ever it is it beter be freaken sweat!

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?I think you're completely wrong. I loved the Halo 3 campaign, I waited just like everyone else for nearly 3 years to see what happens, and I was pretty satisfied. If anything, I think the multiplayer in Halo 3 lacks appeal. Halo 2 multiplayer is still my favorite multiplayer out of all 3 games. COD4 is a trend that will die out, just like many before it, even though I still like that game a lot.
P.S. I think taking a few English courses wouldn't hurt you man.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
In reply to: Re: What will Bungie's next project be?Yeah, I'm all about the Halo story and campaign, I have to also agree that Halo 3's campaign was great. I'm taking a guess that maybe they will pull a Star Wars and do a trilogy of the story before Halo 1,2 and 3.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
I havent read the above posts, but i dont thnink that Bungie's next game will be A)a game [sequel/prequel] to any games before Halo, given the fact that they do not own the rights to ANY of them (halo included), or B) A realistic shooter, Sport game, or racing game. I think that they should just stick to Sci-Fi, seeing as they've put out over three Sci-Fi games already.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
i heard from a friend who's got a friend that is doing construction on Bungie HQ that the next Bungie game is going to be an online multiplayer similar to World of Warcraft, except, you know, obviously not. My guess is it will be set in the Halo universe.

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
I doubt Bungie will ever make a Halo 4 by their own choice. Here's an interesting tidbit from a long time ago:
Will there ever be a Marathon 4?
Who can tell? Bungie have on a number of occasions indicated that they have no intention of continuing the Marathon series. Indeed their Webmaster went so far as to write the following on their letter's page back in Nov '96:
"Imagine a painting of a horse, a marvellous white stallion. This stallion happens to be lying in a crumpled heap on the ground, dead. And Bungie employees are standing around it in a semicircle, beating the horse with various blunt objects. The painting is titled "Marathon 4."
Well, okay, that's overstating things. We're very proud of the Marathon series, but it's not the only thing we can do. Rather than getting into a rut and spitting out a new Marathon game every year, we're going to try some new stuff."
I think Bungie would probably feel the same way about a new halo game

Re: What will Bungie's next project be?
I wouldn't put money on it but I know what I'd love as a simple stop gap between the end of HALO trilogy and whatever big project they have up their sleeves: I want to be able to play all the missions of the trilogy in one game with the graphics and gameplay of HALO3 (or better).
Lets be honest, HALO:CE has some of the best levels from the whole series, right? Wouldn't it be great to do Assault on the Control Room again but this time being able to dual wield and drop bubble shields?
I can't imagine that that would be a huge project to do for Bungie and/or Microsoft and I'm pretty sure it'd be a good earner. It worked for Tomb Raider Aniversary.
