There's an interesting article up at 3D Action Planet today, titled The Evolution of Community. It centers mainly upon id Software as the visionary company that set a strong example by encouraging mods of its games. By supplying information to the masses, id caused the gaming and development worlds to intersect much more deeply, developed a strong, cohesive community and extended the lifetime of its products. Others followed. Some of you Marathoners may possibly have an objection or two to raise, but methinks the author is mostly correct. Go check it out.
