Here's something to be thankful for: Chris Butcher has confirmed on the Oni Central forum that (as Gamespy had previously asserted) you can play as more than 50 characters. Many (though not all) have unique repertoires of moves.

Elsewhere on that forum, chef from Bungie West gave the most detailed explanation yet of why blood was removed from Oni. It should satisfy most of the remaining naysayers on this issue.
