Cunbelin writes in to inform us of an Oni review at Sharky Games. Oni gets a rating of 6.5.
If you want to dish out a good kicking to a few people without having to explain it to the law afterwards, Oni's what you want. The close combat action is so well done and entertaining that it's almost possible to ignore the game's other numerous flaws. Almost. As long as you're not looking for much more from Oni than a bit of 3d fighting action then that you'll be happier than a mouse in a cheese shop. Sadly, that's just about all it offers and the terrible console style save system often gets in the way of you enjoying the combat at all. If it weren't for the excellent combat system I'd consider the game a wasted opportunity. As it is, it's uncomfortably close to deserving such a criticism.
Cun also told us about the detailed and fascinating Sharky report on the GeForce 3. nVidia surprised the world by first displaying the card on a Mac at MacWorld Tokyo just recently. Here's one paragraph that I found interesting:
NVIDIA was quick to point out that the raw power philosophy they had followed in the past is no longer feasible, as memory bandwidth can easily choke the performance of even the fastest accelerators. Instead, they are shooting for a more refined product, like ATI did with the RADEON GPU. Because of this, we are not expecting the GeForce3 to significantly outperform a GeForce2 Ultra board in today's applications.
Sharky reports that retail boards will be shipping in only a 64 meg configuration, relegating older 32 megabyte boards to the secondary tier. (Heh! My PC has 64M on it!) The Apple Store is already taking build-to-order orders with the GF3, and Hercules has announced the Prophet III with a very cool Flash animation on their site.
