Kudos to VirtualWolf, who spotted an unexpected posting on alt.games.marathon: a pleasant (very pleasant) surprise for Marathon fans who have been waiting for another good scenario to come along. From RHL's news:
Remember a while ago somebody stumbled across a Marathon screenshot on the Rampancy.net website, and nobody knew where it was from?Well, I think I know now: www.marathonrubicon.com
This is a new scenario that was just announced on alt.games.marathon. And this screenshot looks very like the one found on R.net: www.marathonrubicon.com/screenshots/rubicon-1.jpg
A new Marathon scenario! WHOOT! :D
They said it has been in development for four years, and is in late beta testing at the moment. It should be released in about a month.
The posting to which VW refers was from April 16, 2000. Two images from earlier in this astonishing scenario's development. I was graciously given a chance to see this scenario during the beta test (unfortunately, I turned out to be rather useless as a tester), and I can say this: it raises the bar in Marathon scenario design. The levels are awe inspiring, but despite their size and scope, don't lack in attention to detail.
The Marathon: Rubicon website has more information than I can post here, and it's most definitely worth a visit. A conversion well worth waiting for--we'll have more on it when it's released.
