MS Jolt went to E3 and played a whole-lotta XBox and they certainly didn't overlook HALO. Staff member Will White was impressed with the solo play, but like so many, was very disappointed with the multiplayer performance:
Bungie's first title for the Xbox, Halo, seems to be off to a good start, that is if you're not planning on playing multiplayer. The single player mode of Halo was running very well at the show and is quite impressive so far. It was running at a near constant 60 frames per second and had a creative story to follow the game.[snip]
This multiplayer team play was in a nutshell, terrible. It was plagued with slowdown and major frame rate issues. The Microsoft rep working next to the kiosk said it was due to incomplete hardware and they were going to set the game to run at a steady 30 frames per second with the finalized hardware. These were their hopes and we'll find out if they've been realized this November when Halo is officially released.
Let's hope things do get better; I was there to witness the slowdown and it wasn't pretty. The solo play was magnificent though. Hey, that's what Will said.
