Well, it looks like practically no one uses the "flat" modes at all, so I won't be worrying about them. This is fine with me, as I don't use them either.

"Threaded expanded" seems the most popular (it's the mode most useful for features like avatars) but it seems like the VAST majority didn't know about the modes. There are "comment control" settings there on any page you can post comments-- you can choose the viewing mode and the sort order (first-last, last-first). Play with them, see what you like best, and vote-- I'll be sure to try and optimize the next upgrade for the most popular mode (threaded flat so far).
