GameSpot has two recent articles on the successor to the Xbox; one mentions that Microsoft is pledging to make it smaller, with a simpler design, at least in part to cater to the Japanese market, where the Xbox did not fare particularly well. The other mentions the attempts of the HD-DVD Association to get Microsoft to use their new media; Sony has already chosen the competing technology named Blu-Ray for the PlayStation 3.

Making it smaller? And simpler?
It's a freakin' box, hence the name Xbox, how much more simple could it get? I guess they could make a sphere, or a tetrahexahedron or something similar.
I say they should keep the same shape, same look, just make the little jewel thing blue.
Not red, not that iridescent snot green they have now, and not! not not not! purple!

Re: Making it smaller? And simpler?
In reply to: Making it smaller? And simpler?Well, I think they mean other things-- not its shape (since the GC is a cube and the PS2 also a box) but some of the other design cues, like the bulge on the top, the radiator-like fins... stuff like that.

Simpler?
In reply to: Re: Making it smaller? And simpler?Well the bulge isn't too awful, since I never really noticed it. The fins though.. they add to the space-age design that makes the Xbox the Xbox, you can't touch the fins.
The only update they should make to it's physical features, is to make it stackable.
I've got 2, and need another, I can fit two in my cabinet, but I can't fit three... I could fit three if they were stackable though.
Microsoft! Make your new Xbox's stackable!

Yes, Stackable
In reply to: Simpler?I agree they should be stackable. Mostly it isn't because of the bulge.
But the fins? Lose 'em. Darn 50s retro chic.
