Nintendo has put out a press release to combat yesterday's offering from Microsoft, and there are some interesting developments here:
Nintendo of America reported today that, based on direct communications with its retailers, its new NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM) home video game console has reached sales of nearly 600,000 units in America in 15 days, or an average of 27 per minute -- nonstop -- since its November 18th introduction.Because Microsoft has declined to estimate its actual consumer sales numbers, no fully accurate picture of comparative market activity is yet available. That data won't be available until The NPD Group releases its full projected sales report for the month of November in the next few weeks. For example, NPD's sample does not reflect system sales at Wal-Mart, the nation's largest retailer, and also the largest retail outlet for NINTENDO GAMECUBE.
Those who are keen to make something of this should note: NPD numbers are not actual sales. They are estimates based on surveys of a cross-section of retailers; and as this notes, one of the country's biggest retailers is not included in the sample.

Sales
C'mon people. Sure, the GC sold more units, but does that make it the better machine? NO IT FUCKING DOESN'T

Who asked what the better machine was?
I'm sorry.. sales is all that matters.
Beta is/was better than VHS. Nobody cares anymore, as a consumer technology Beta is dead.
Mac is/was better than Windows. Very few care now, because on sales, Windows won, and there are fewer differentiating factors than there were years ago.
The DreamCast might have been, for instance, a superior machine compared to the PS2. This no longer matters. Failure to sell enough units forced Sega to stop manufacturing it, and exit the console sales market. So nobody cares.

: Um I'm sure that the Xbox won't go under like the Dreamcast did. But that's beside the point. The point is, not to take sales as a resource in deciding weather to buy a GC or XBOX. Because clearly the Xbox OWNS the GC no question. Just stop treating sales like it's all that matters. Microsoft is the richest company in the fucking world. I don't think that they will discontinue the Xbox regardless of weather some Jap Piece Of Shit outsold. GC outsold PS2, does that mean that they gonna discontinue the PS2? You have no point what-so-ever and it's clear that the Xbox OWNS PS2 and GC. I don't even care, all those people who wasted money on GC's are missing the expirence of the Xbox.

This has got to be one of the more naieve expressions I've seen on this board.
You buy a console to play games, right? And companies who make games have to decide what console to make them for, right? And you want to keep your $300 investment for a couple of years, right?
How do you think companies decide a year down the road from now what console to release games on? Some sophomoric idea about what piece of gear "ownz" what? Or the installed base of units in the field?
Because clearly the Xbox OWNS the GC no
: question. Just stop treating sales like it's all that

This was a business story, not a fanboy rant about who "owns" who. Sales ARE all that matters, as far as that is concerned.
Microsoft is the richest company in the fucking
: world. I don't think that they will discontinue the Xbox
: regardless of weather some Jap Piece Of Shit outsold.
And the reason for this would be? MS has, in the past, discontinued failed products. As I said before, I'm not suggesting the Xbox will be discontinued, just that if it sells less than all the other boxes, from a business standpoint it won't be a complete success, no matter how much it "owns" anything.
You don't get to be the richest company in the world by continuing to make things that don't sell. *IF* the Xbox doesn't sell well enough, they'd discontinue it. Now, from my perspective, things aren't nearly that bad. The question will come about whether the XBox is successful enough for MS to continue in the market with another machine to compete with the PS3.
GC
: outsold PS2, does that mean that they gonna discontinue the
: PS2?
No, it didn't. There are over twenty million PS2s in the market. They didn't evaporate because Nintendo sold a few more units in a single week. The PS2 is currently the largest target market for console games-- and not suprisingly, there are more games for it than anything else right now.
So, no, "they ain't gonna" discontinue the PS2. None of which has anything
You have no point what-so-ever and it's clear that the

: who wasted money on GC's are missing the expirence of the

No such thing is clear at all; that's nothing more than your personal opinion. And so far, it seems that just as many, if not more people, disagree with you.

Re: My GameCube "expirence"
In reply to: Re: Who asked...Has been far richer than my XBox "expirence."
Sure, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II disappointed me, but I also have 3 winners in Madden NFL 2002, Pikmin and Super Monkey Ball. 5 of these games are GameCube exlusives and the only game that has mixed reviews is Luigi's Mansion.
Super Smash Bros. Melee disappointed *me,* but it's apparently one of the hottest sellers in Japan. I also haven't played it with friends, and it *is* a "party game" after all. Rogue Squadron II just wasn't the revolution I hoped...it's very similar to the N64 title, except with jaw-dropping graphics.
I've played a bit of Halo, Amped, Oddworld and Project Gotham on the XBox, and only Halo would be on my final buy list if I decide to pick up an XBox down the road. It really depends on what *other* titles are coming out for it.
