Pallor cites an MSNBC article in bringing us news that the Xbox is going to have a V-chip. If you haven't heard of this by now, the V-chip is a means for parents (or very cruel friends or spouses) to block out content that they don't want you to see.
March 5 — Amid the considerable buzz over Microsoft’s highly anticipated Xbox, few have taken notice of the unglamorous announcement that Microsoft will solder a V-chip-style control inside the video game console, which is slated for introduction this fall. Details about the device won’t be unveiled until the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the annual gaming industry powwow in May, but it will probably allow parents to prevent their kids from playing games rated for violent or sexual content.
It'll be interesting to see how much of this relates to the Columbine videogame backlash. Even Orson Scott Card told viewers in a public chat that in the Ender's Game movie, they may need to make guns in the Battle Room look like they aren't guns.
Update: Funny that I wrote that... I've just discovered about yesterday's shooting spree. Will the debate be renewed so close to the Columbine anniversary?
