What exactly is the index.... and is that what activates the weapon?? And why do they need a reclaimer... why cant 343 GS remove and take the index anyways... why must the MC do his work. Can someone please just explain the whole index/weapon/other shit to me plz..

The index probably has somekind of lock on it that can only be opened by humanoid lifeforms, like the master chief or (probably) the forerunners, as some sort of security system.
A reclaimer is needed to deactivate the lock so that the index can be taken to the control room to insert it into the Halo-mainframe, once inserted, it is probably used to deactivate a bunch of security systems so that the user can access important, high-security stuff (like the program that activates Halo's weapon).
In this case, the MC has to remove the index 'cause 343 GS can't take it 'cause he's not humanoid.
Before the forerunners left Halo, they probably used to take care of stuff like that.

This is all I can think of, I hope it answers your questions...
...and, yes, i am the biggest Halo-freak on the planet...

Don't you all find it kind of malicious of the Forerunner to make a 'humanoid' lifeform such as theirselves or us activate the weapon ? I'm sure the Forerunner have come (or came) to the conclusion that any less-civlized humanoid life-forms don't have the means to activate the weapon, and therefore couldn't possibly defend themselves against the Flood. This brings up another question. Maybe they DID come to this conclusion, but just hadn't planned on not being around to activate the weapon, so they thought it was never necessary to have a machine do the dirty work. Maybe they ARE extinct ..

yea...i was wondering, what happened to the forerunners? why arnt they around if they're race was threatened, why did the abandon Halo, of all its significance, why just leave it for us and the covenant?

bungie has already confirmed that they're not dead (the forerunners).
so maybe they're still alive on the other installations or maybe they're hiding out somewhere, or settled somewhere else or something like that.

FIRST OF ALL HAVENT YOU FIGURED OUT WHO THE FORRUNNERS ARE?

DAMN! YOUR SLOW

look at the architecture listen to 343 look at every thing that happened read the books

THE FORRUNNERS ARE THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS!!

THATS WHY THEY RECOGNIZE HUMANS BUT NOT COVIES

AND THE INDEX... HERE THAT INDEX?

ITS A LIST OF SENTIENT LIFE FORMs, WHERE THEY ARE, HOW TO USE HALO, AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN HALOS DATA BANKS

343 says himself that the forruners made it so only they could carry the index for security reasons, my guess is that they didnt want 343 to exterminate tehm without there approval

THAT CLEAR IT UP?
