Very few of us survived. And those who did, owe their lives to the Traveler.

Destiny's biggest McGuffin is the Traveler-- a mysterious alien artifact that, unlike Halo, seems bent on our protection rather than our destruction-- which makes it no less mysterious.

The walls that surround the last city beneath the Traveler indicate that there are things on the surface that need to be kept out...

An interesting mix of structures here. In the background left and foreground right, one can see towers on which appear to be mounted lights, like stadium lights. The other tall objects could be construction cranes.

In the background on the right is a smooth structures that looks very Forerunner-like, quite a bit like the beam towers seen on Halo installations.

Eerily similar to real life images of shrinking bodies of water like the Aral sea, here what looks to be an aircraft carrier or some other kind of ship, stranded in a desert.

This structure appears to have been a communications array. Something apparently of alien manufacture has destroyed the building and the satellite dish as well.

If video games set in the future have taught me anything, it's that not only do we never get flying cars, but all the cars we do have either end up burnt to a crisp, converted into a flowerbed, or both.

This may very well end up being a representation of Destiny's equivalent of Mass Effect's galaxy map-- a not-to-scale representation of humanity's home solar system, with major Destinations here visible: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus. Bungie's current development efforts apparently center around small teams organized around different Destinations.

I've often thought that the space combat gameplay that Bungie put into Reach would be used again somewhere down the road.

Apparently, players in Destiny will have access to personal spaceships that they will use to explore the solar system.

The title of the ViDoc has at least two potential meanings.

The first is a reference to Bungie's first 3D shooter title, Pathways Into Darkness, in which the protagonist descends into an ancient pyramid to attempt to neutralize a sleeping god with a nuclear weapon-- hence, a pathway into darkness.

Bungie's Technical Director, Chris Butcher, opens the first Destiny ViDoc.

"That moment, where we decided that the right thing for us was to do something big and commit the entire company to it... it's a big deal."
