This has probably already been discussed, but I haven't heard the explanation. How come in multiplayer, you can clearly see that the flashlight is on the Master Chief's helmet, but the light moves with the weapon? For example, if you press Y to switch weapons you see that the light follows the weapon's movement. The light is in a fixed position on the helmet though.

Man, I can't believe no one got this. Someone - maybe Case? Rex? Can't remember who - answered this at HBO.
The light is attached to you, but it's geared to automatically co-ax with your weapon. Wherever you're pointing, that's where the light aims. So, when you wave your gun around - changing weapons, reloading, meleeing - the poor light moves with it.
That sounds like one of those "yeah, right, that's the ticket" answers... as if different people were responsible for the two sets of animations, and this was the way of reconciling them-- a magic technology for making a fixed lamp appear to track.
After all, for a light on your helmet to track where the weapon is pointed at some times while weapons are being changed or reloaded would require that your helmet point straight up or down, or behind you.
In fact, if such a system actually had been designed with this idea in mind, doubtless the MC would ask for it to be *disabled* during melee attacks, since it removes your target from view, which would not be necessary for a helmet-mounted lamp.
It seems like a better idea, to me, for the lamp to track with your helmet so you can see what you're looking at rather than what you're aiming at-- since with the way Halo's controls are laid out, they are one and the same anyway, *except* when reloading or melee attacking, during which processes having the light go where the gun is pointed is counterproductive.

Okay, okay. So this is either desperate scrambling on their part; or simply a bit of miltary background which wasn't fleshed out QUITE as realistically as it might have been.
I still just put it down to looking good. It's quite a neat graphical effect, seeing your torch point around. Have you noticed that at the start of the first level when you are unarmed, it DOES follow where you look, as if it is shining from the MC's helmet? It judders as you crawl and stuff. Also, when you enter a scope zoom it does this as well.
I was trying to test this the other day on The Silent Cartographer. Remember the part inside where there is a red Elite at a computer-like terminal? I flashed the light on and off to see if he would notice. Nothing. I turned it on for a few seconds, then turned it off. Nothing.
... that any of the enemies in the game notice the flashlight. If they seem to respond to it at all it's probably coincidence. I think they respond to seeing you, to weapons fire, and grenades, but I think that's all.

If you didn't watch that film, it shows the player shining the torch...sorry, flashlight ;) on a grunt, and it gets up and starts shooting. But I tried that today and it didn't work.
I stayed up pretty late playing Assault On The Control Room last night and did some things I thought were pretty cool, though have probably already been accomplished by someone else. At the part right after where you and the marines separate, I took a Ghost inside the structure and got pretty far with it--all the way to the elevator/lift. If you activate the lift with the Ghost on it, it gets about halfway up, then clips through the bottom and crashes down. I'm sure this was intentionally done by Bungie to keep the Ghost off the second level, but it's amusing nonetheless. I was also able to take the Ghost all the way down to the bottom of the elevator shaft, but there's not much to do down there. :)
Ferrex said that machines and vehicles "don't play nice". I don't think it was intentional, since it doesn't work both ways-- in other levels, you can get vehicles DOWN through elevators no problem.
As for other fun stuff.. I kept trying to get down that first bridge, either by jumping along the side walls, or jumping (grenade hopping) onto the Pelican as it passes, but no luck.
Luring Hunters onto bridges is fun, when they do their melee rush it's not to hard to get them to jump off the bridge.

Another fun thing to do, is when you reach the very end of the level, take a ghost up to the final door before the control room. Hit the switch and start to pick up speed, if you time it right the ghost will run over MC when it goes to the cinema scene, but somehow he keeps talking, you can do this in many parts of the game, not with ghost, but with enemies. Such as on two betrayals, on the last power station, dont destroy any of the sentinal, and they may kill you in the cinema scene, it depends on your health and the difficulty level your on.
:another fun thing to do is when U are at the land bridge atop the canyon on your way to the control tower, if U kept teh sniper Rifle u can snipe the red elite that rides the banshees and leave the banshee for your transportation needs. but U must be quick and it is a good idea to blow up the other one before you take flight and try to get rid of the tank ay the bottom of the chasm. try it. it makes the mission go a lot faster and allows you to skip teh enemies that are along the path to the control room. (except teh masses behind the door
In reply to: Re: Fun With Assault On The Control Room
A reeeeaaallllyyyy fun thing to do is on Asholt on D Control room is where you get your tanks for the first time, where the pelican crashed, somwhere there is a ledge, not a natural but a human made if you have the rocket launcher (there is one by the pelican!) shot on the human made ledge, and if your lucky there will be a banshee falling down, ready to be controoled it makes the level a hoooole lot easier and funnyer! it's quite hard to do it though but trust me! it is posible!!!

Both of them could be classed as less efective weapons, but the AR is fun to use and the needler is very useful on occasions like when your fighting an elite in a corridor.
They're both great weapons - whenever possible I use them, but on higher difficulties you have to use better stuff than that, or you die horribly. It's not pretty.
In reply to: If you like bullets, you'll love the AR!!!
Well, the Needler is not a good primary weapon, I'd agree. There are a lot of times when I am just trying to find one though. It's great on The Silent Cartographer, for instance. It's great to shoot off the 20 needle rounds into a Grunt, then explode all his friends.
As for the Assault Rifle, I don't get what the bad rap is about. I use it all the time, even on Legendary. Sucks on Elites, but that's it.
I would say the needler.
the reason is because even though they arre both difficult to get good shots with, the AR is a sound weapon for Melee attacks and can lead to many death on the part of the sneakier player. the needler is much mre difficult to use as a bashing weapon
The AR is certainly the better multiplayer weapons, when your oppponents have no shields they're easy to take out with it. Compared to something like the pistol though, it's just not as good. That's pretty much the story with the AR - it's a good gun and fun to use but there's better weapons out there to use. So use them!
Strange as it may be, I actually find the Needler pretty useful against Hunters when there's two of them and they refuse to turn their backs. Sure, most of the needles will bounce off a Hunter's armor, but the explosion from the ones that stick can be quite effective. A little strategizing around the fact that it's a fire-and-forget type weapon can really pay off.
On the other hand, the AR's got to be the most efficient way of taking out masses of Flood infection forms or Grunts. Only problem is, Grunts have Elites nearby and infection forms have warriors, and it takes a lot of AR ammo to do in an Elite or a Flood warrior form.

They say the word 'flood' on the news you spring to your feet and aim a gun that isn't even there.
You start building your own MJOLNR battle suit out of cornflake packets with tinfoil stuck on.
When something scares you, you say in a high-pitched voice "I just wet myself!"
You have a recurring dream where you have to make a terrifying jump out of a Covenant capital ship into a pool of coolant.
You start climbing onto shelves at the supermarket aiming a baguette, telling anyone nearby you're giving them covering fire.
Every time you see anything shiny and round you leap for cover.
You wake up in the fridge with frostbite having mistaken it for a cryotube.

The Flashlight In Halo
This has probably already been discussed, but I haven't heard the explanation. How come in multiplayer, you can clearly see that the flashlight is on the Master Chief's helmet, but the light moves with the weapon? For example, if you press Y to switch weapons you see that the light follows the weapon's movement. The light is in a fixed position on the helmet though.

Actually, I'd say it's a bug, and it's not the only one when it comes to the differences between first and third person views of MC.
Watch, for instance, what it looks like when you do the various melee attacks, and then take a look from a second player's perspective.
IIRC the attack animation for the plasma pistol is actually done with the wrong hand.

Other fun things
In reply to: Fun With Assault On The Control RoomYeah, that was one of the first things I tried :)

Re: Fun With Assault On The Control Room
In reply to: Fun With Assault On The Control RoomAnother fun thing to do, is when you reach the very end of the level, take a ghost up to the final door before the control room.

In reply to: Re: Fun With Assault On The Control RoomA reeeeaaallllyyyy fun thing to do is on Asholt on D Control room is where you get your tanks for the first time, where the pelican crashed, somwhere there is a ledge, not a natural but a human made if you have the rocket launcher (there is one by the pelican!) shot on the human made ledge, and if your lucky there will be a banshee falling down, ready to be controoled it makes the level a hoooole lot easier and funnyer! it's quite hard to do it though but trust me! it is posible!!!

Yeah, chuck a s#@! load of granades (kill your marines) and set it off, the tank should go flying over top and land softly on the other side(or it could get shot into orbit, i have not tryed it sucsesfuly yet!)

Hey Matt
So what is this Phoenix thing, anyway?
OK, that was shameless, but it works on HBO so I thought I might as well try.

Worst weapon- AR or Needler?
So... which is it?
I tend to use the AR a lot, even if I know I don't like it.
And I hardly ever use the Needler unless there's nothing else available-- even though I know it's good on Elites.
So what does everybody think? What's the least effective gun in the game? Or is there such a thing as a "least effective gun" in Halo?

Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?
In reply to: Worst weapon- AR or Needler? Both of them could be classed as less efective weapons, but the AR is fun to use and the needler is very useful on occasions like when your fighting an elite in a corridor.

If you like bullets, you'll love the AR!!!
In reply to: You = WrongThey're both great weapons - whenever possible I use them, but on higher difficulties you have to use better stuff than that, or you die horribly. It's not pretty.

Re: If you like bullets, you'll love the AR!!!
In reply to: If you like bullets, you'll love the AR!!!Well, the Needler is not a good primary weapon, I'd agree.

In reply to: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?I can say that the AR is almost always more useful than the needler in multiplayer.

Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?
In reply to: Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?True. As if you didn't know, I like the Assault Rifle and use it quite often in multiplayer. It works great.

Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?
In reply to: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?I would say the needler.
the reason is because even though they arre both difficult to get good shots with, the AR is a sound weapon for Melee attacks and can lead to many death on the part of the sneakier player. the needler is much mre difficult to use as a bashing weapon

Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?
In reply to: Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler? The AR is certainly the better multiplayer weapons, when your oppponents have no shields they're easy to take out with it. Compared to something like the pistol though, it's just not as good. That's pretty much the story with the AR - it's a good gun and fun to use but there's better weapons out there to use. So use them!

Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?
In reply to: Re: Worst weapon- AR or Needler?Strange as it may be, I actually find the Needler pretty useful against Hunters when there's two of them and they refuse to turn their backs.
