I am working on a "Rampancy Classic" theme that will be more like the old page-- recent forum threads in two boxes on the top, and the items currently in the horizontal menu at the top and bottom in a slim menu on the left, with no other newsfeed boxes or anything else.

It requires more modifications to the system than the other themes (Rampancy, Rampancy Left and Rampancy Right) did because it's a bigger departure-- nearly the entire system is built around the concept of horizontal headers and footers with non-modifiable content, then customizable content in 1-3 vertical columns in the main area between them.

I'm hoping I'll have it done by tomorrow, or Monday the latest.

Who of you guys are preordering Myth III? From where? For what platform?

I will be going to a retailer myself the day it's released (Mac version) mainly because no one seems to be accepting Mac preorders.

Blambi's picture

In reply to: How Are You Buying Myth III?

I'll pre-order it from somewhere, I'm just not sure where. I would buy it from right here like I buy everything else except that Amazon makes no mention of it working with Macs.

Yes, although I'll have to wait until I'm back in North America to get it, probably this December sometime.

Should we make this a poll item?

That deal was just too good to pass up.

Normally I prefer the ritual of buying at a retailer and driving home with the shiny new box in my hands (well, literally speaking my hands would be on the steering wheel). Although that's a bit inconvenient as there are no good software shops near me -- closest is maybe 20 minutes away, and for a really popular release I may have to go to ones that are an hour or more away. Never ceases to amaze me that I'm right by a university in the heart of Silicon Valley and no store around here appears to be interested in selling the latest computer games on release day.

not pre-order, cause it's almost too late for that :-)
I'd buy it from store, but the nearest is an 80 minute drive, but it's guaranteed to be at some store after that drive, Portland is a fair size city.

I have the same problem, Jonny. no one in this town wants to stock new games either...but then 95% of the people here think micro chips are the little pieces at the bottom of a bag of chips...

I pre-ordered my copy of Myth 3 for Mac back last January through Chips and Bits

http://www.cdmag.com.

I emailed them and they confirmed they are still shipping, though they obviousely had to push back the shipping date from late October which is what it was projected as originally. I pre-ordered my copy for $29.95 though now they have the price listed as $39.95. I had them confirm the price for me for my order... so maybe if you pre-order now you have to pay a higher price ::shrug::

Maybe this will help some of you out there still looking for a goof reliablr source to pre-order for Mac.

In reply to: A Place For Mac Pre-Orders

I've actually heard some not-so-good things about Chips & Bits and I'm sure they will charge $39.95 for new orders. Still looks like the best bet for non-IMG subscribers is to simply buy it retail.

In reply to: Re: A Place For Mac Pre-Orders

Is there a chain store that anybody knows of that will let you preorder for Mac? I don't have a credit card, and I checked those CompUSA assholes but they're not letting me preorder.

I think the only place to pre-order is from an online source... well, for Mac userz like us anyway.

Pee Cee'rs have the option of pre-orders through EB, but the majority of all pre-orders are probably online. I haven't seen any Mac retailer offering a Myth 3 pre-order that wasn't through an online source. In fact so far I've only heard of two online sources offering Mac pre-orders.

Talk about cruel and unusual punishment =(

I did not preorder it, and after blowing all my money on a digital camera a few weeks ago, I figured that I would have to wait for Christmas to get it.

Then my wife came home from work last night with a copy of M3 for me.

I really love my wife. ;)

Just bought the PC version today (my Mac is too weak to run it, but my PC isn't). The FCAW port is perfect!

And the Iron Trow are unbelivable.

I've downloaded it and have listened to 13 of the MP3s and so far I think it's pretty damn good. It's as good (if not better) than Total Audio's efforts and I'm definitely satisfied. What about you guys?

In reply to: Myth III Soundtrack

Maybe it will be better in the game context, but Myth: Total Soundtrack is really enjoyable alone, unlike the M3 soundtrack. Well, at least i didn't pay for it.

I know that's pretty hard on the composer's back, but I just could'nt listen to it all yesterday night. It's was so... "disounding" and "hard broken sound". I know they wanted it to be more tribal... but those are my feelings.

I have listened to all of it yet. It is certainly different than marty's style. Overall I think it's ok, not as hummable as marty's stuff, at least not yet.

I don't really approve of his use of a bagpipe to play connachts theme ... I just don't think it works well. It's much too harsh an instrument to play a melody like that. Some people are going to hear me say this a million times, but I think a midrange brass instrument like a french horn would have been better for that melody, even though it would have drastically changed the overall sound of the theme. The bagpipe works great on the dirge though. Also, in the gentle connacht theme, the switch to flute for the theme works ok too.

The cellist is awesome. Great feel for the music, lots of expression. When I listened to the cello I said "that is definately not a canned sound", and I found out later that I was right. :)

Just my thoughts, seeing as my dad is a composer/arranger and as a result I have maybe a better inkling about what might work well (or so I think).

I'll comment on the rest of the tracks when I get to them.

In reply to: Re: Myth III Soundtrack

Based on what we've seen of Connacht, I'll have to agree with Mumbo Jumbo: bagpipes work. They work pretty well in conveying a mood. It sounds very highland-ish, which, afaik, is exactly what they were going for.

What I don't like is that the bagpipe melody is essentially recycled throughout a lot of what I've heard thus far, which tends to not be that sonically interesting. One of the downfalls of using pre-sampled music, perhaps.

The cello stuff stands out for me as being the best; very evocative, and as was said in the read-me, very Crouching Tiger-ish, which is definitely a good thing.

I guess what it comes down to is that you can't beat real music. Computers and sunthesizers just aren't there yet.

Hm, I don't have a problem with using bagpipes, I just don't think the melody he picked works well with them.

Sounds very overproduced too me. Too 'shiny' and clean with much too much echo. From the descriptions I was expecting something really raw, like those blokes who smash dustbin lids around.

Anonymous's picture

In reply to: Re: Myth III Soundtrack

I think TotalAudio's work is far beyond.
It had a really big impact on the game's mood.
It made it epic.
Myth III hasn't the same accuracy: in graphic and in music.

Myth TFL was a graphical miracle when came out, and the music was on pair, Myth III is just a good game, not a.. "myth".
