In reply to: boxes of beans!!They also seem to make noise-- a shimmering electronic sound. I always thought of some of them as being communications gear of some sort. But in other locations, there appear to be too many of them for this purpose.

Oh, come on, now! Surely you can think of something better than that. In the level where you first encounter the flood, one of the boxes is spilled with purple needler cartridges and needler guns! They could be multi purpose devices for all aforementioned, though.
