Just a couple things I'd like to say a few words on:
1.) In the Halo 2 trailer, how do we know that is, infact, Earth. The Covenant don't know where it is, which leaves Guilty Spark 343 with the location. For all the old school Marathon players out there you know how this works (Durandal and the S'fpt or Tycho and the Phfor)
2.) Back to more Marathon similarities....Cortana could be a little like Leela, Tycho is alot like Guilty Spark 343 (could he be another reanimated/purged version?), and hopefully a Durandal like AI will show up in H2.
3.) Lastly, just for fun, it would be most cool to see Phfor troopers as part of the Covenant, seeing as they hate humans so much.

How We Know It's Earth
There are a number of clues:
1) The Admiral character admits they've "lost advantage within the lunar perimeter" without naming a moon, leading us to believe they men "the" moon-- Earth's moon.
2) As the MC parajumps down onto the Covenant ship, you can clearly see theoutline of continental north america beneath him. Certain Bungie reps also pointed out an explosion near the area of Redmond, Washington.
3) The Halo 2 preview in this month's Edge magazine is titled "Halo 2: Earth".
4) Our mission in Halo 2, as displayed in the trailer's subtitles, is "save humanity". Most likely that would have to be done on Earth, where most of humanity is.
