I'm sure Bungie is getting flogged by emails requesting this, but wouldn't it be cool if they could release a playable Halo 2 demo? Upon reading the February 2004 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, I learned that one of their employees, Frank O'Connor, now works at Bungie Studios. (lucky bastard!) So I was thinking that maybe they could put a playable Halo 2 demo (perhaps of the E3 demo video?) on one of the upcoming disks. I'm sure the people at Bungie read this, so perhaps if there is a huge demand for a playable demo, they might release one. Please share your thoughts on this, and let your voice be heard!

I think that Halo 2 WILL come out for the PC after a time for microsoft to make all the $ they can get. Then (like Halo 1) the cool game Halo 2 will evetualy come to the PC. I have Halo for the PC and I think it's the best MUlTIPLAYER game I have ever played. Although Counter Strike would win if there were Ghosts, hogs, scorpions, and Banshees.

That is a great idea im sure everyone loves the thought of a halo2 demo but unless we bug the crap ouit of these people i doubt that well ever see one so the most we can do now is just keep asking

Why dont they just make a PC demo for halo 2. Its all like XBOX this and XBOX that but nobody seems to notice that most good games dont even come out on PC anymore. This is absolute crap.

I WONT A PC DEMO 4 HALO 2, OR AT LEAST HALO 2 BEING RELEASED ON PC!!

Halo 2 hasn't even been announced for PC. And given the experience of PC Halo users and the tension between Gearbox and Bungie, I think there's reasonable doubt that it will ever happen.

I'm not saying it won't-- because I don't know for sure either way. But if I had to guess, I'd say it's not.

First of all I'm surprised this thread is still in use.
Narc, as before he probably meant the E3 2003/04 demos.
What tension is there Narc? I haven't heard of anything..
Really, I wouldn't use Halo 2 as a PC game. On my laptop that I got around last year sometime like around August or something, the graphics were crap. I had to put it on the lowest setting of detail and I didn't like that to take out the lag. On the internet there was always a lag. Halo 2 is so much faster that people wouldn't have a clue.

Me, too :)

Well, those were really only playable by Bungie. They've mentioned in a few places that, while strictly speaking, it was all in-engine and real-time, there were many ways they could have broken the scripting; Earth City was never really completed as a playable level.

There's a lot. Gearbox has been consistently and repeatedly pointing fingers at Bungie as a response to fan complaints about PC Halo's lack of editing and Custom Edition's netcode problems.

I'm in the same boat. I use a powerbook for my computing and for older games; I wouldn't call myself an Xbox fanboi, but it's got more than enough good games (Halo 1 and Halo 2 included) to use up all the free time I could possibly have that I want to give to computer gaming, and then some.

Agreed, though it is still a demo. Or maybe he got the leaked version..

Lol. Fair enough. Maybe another publisher might do it?

Exactly. People should enjoy the Xbox because of Halo, not go "Oh yeah I've played it on Xbox we can also play on the computer". Halo is an Xbox game, not a PC game.

In reply to: PC DEMO FOR HALO 2

the games are made on a PC therefore they should make a full game or atleast a demo

narcogen's picture

In reply to: I agree

Said it before... I'll say it again. Probably not going to happen.

All console games are developed on PCs of some kind. That doesn't mean all console games get ported. Because they don't.

Even if it was done, it'd most likely be done by a porting house, like last time-- which means Bungie wouldn't be doing the game port or the demo themselves anyway.

In reply to: halo 2 Demo pc

There is no Halo 2 for PC. Although it's possible such a port might be done in the future, nothing has been announced yet, so it is far too premature to be asking when there's going to be a demo for a game that hasn't even been announced yet.

As I've posted elsewhere in the thread, I think it unlikely Halo 2 will be ported to PC.
Grunts are so weak why did they put those damn little shits in there.
They are actually stronger on Halo 2 than on Halo. I shot an overcharged plasma shot from the plasma pistol and it didn't die whereas in the first Halo, it did die.

When I went to BestBuy a guy told me that Halo 2 for the PC is coming around Febuary and March, But it could be more later.... you no how BUNGIE is.
narcogen's picture

In reply to: Halo 2 for PC

Yeah, I like to think I know how Bungie is. At least, slightly better than most of the cretins who work at places like Best Buy.

If Halo 2 comes to the PC by March 2005, I'll have your man-babies.

... because it doesn't exist.

Halo 2 for PCs-- let alone a free demo of it-- doesn't exist because Bungie hasn't announced it. Nor is there any indication that any such announcement is forthcoming.

If you want Halo 2, at the moment you've got to buy an Xbox to get it. They aren't expensive these days.

Would love to see a playable Halo2 demo. I dont know anything about the game, but have heard nothing but good things. It seems to me that why would they release a demo that sells the amount of copies Halo2 did at the time of release.....
Anonymous's picture

why cant there be a halo 2 demo anyway?if anybody finds one let me know on the forum :)
narcogen's picture

In reply to: i want halo2 demo

Who would the demo be for? The three guys who have Xboxes but don't own Halo 2 already?

Given how many more PlayStation 2s there are in the world, the fact that Halo 2 was even CLOSE to GTA:SA's numbers in sales is astounding. I doubt the number of potential customers they have left would be worth making an Xbox demo for.

As for a PC version-- even if it were to exist (which I doubt) the demo would come (as usual) after the game's release, and my guess is that would be a minimum of 1 year away... if it happens at all, which I doubt.

you would think that when a game sells 5 mill copys in the first few months they would get thier act together and tap the even bigger response they would get from a pc conversion, i have halo on pc and xbox i have to say the pc conversion was far superior, i dunno perhaps bungie are frightend that they will not be able to match the current online pc games but after playing the xbox version of halo 2 and taking in to account the response they would get with mods and maps the net comunity would make sure that it was the best game so far and microsoft and bungie could still make thier money. so why is thier no release date or even a hint of one to be found come on bungie give microsoft a kick up the ass.
narcogen's picture

In reply to: halo 2 pc release

The PC version was largely a disaster. There are three separate versions (Mac, PC, Custom Edition). Custom Edition supports mods. The other two don't. Custom Edition is not network-compatible with the other two, and depending on when fixes are made, sometimes the Mac and PC versions aren't compatible with each other.

The only player base for all flavors of PC Halo is much lower than on Xbox Live for Halo 2. Custom Edition is unable to get even 1,000 simultaneous players worldwide at any one time, and the modding community, compared to earlier Bungie games like Marathon and Myth, is merely a shadow of itself.

There's little incentive to port Halo 2 to PC, I think, and given the schedule the last time, I'd not expect to see an announcement for six months and then another year to complete the port itself.

With over six million copies already sold-- over 12 for the Halo franchise to date-- somehow I'm not sure how much weight this threat carries.

You must know SOMEBODY who has Halo or Halo 2. Ask to try it.

Or how about this: The Halo games are good. Trust us.

Hey, my name is Kenneth Combs from New York. I'm 16 years old, and I play halo a lot.. I have Halo, and Halo 2 for X-box. I was wondering if you could make that Demo for Halo 2. ;) It would really make me happy, for I can't afford X-Box Live.. lol So please consider making that demo online too just like the first demo of Halo: Combat Evolved.. ;) w00t w00t ~Evil Sparkals~ P.S. ::: I'm never going to be on this forum again, so just IM me on AIM if you want.. ( This applies to anyone who wishes to talk to me.. ) Kenneth Combs IV ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ s/n ;) thank you so much~ :)

i know that if they made halo 1 for pc halo 2 will be on also made by microsoft.
narcogen's picture

In reply to: halo 1 came out for pc

Microsoft published Halo 1 on the PC. It was ported from the Xbox to the PC by Gearbox, and ported from the PC to the Mac OS by Westlake.

So if Halo 2 were to come out for PCs, most likely it would take the same route: a third party would be contracted to do PC and (possibly) Mac ports, and Microsoft would publish them. (Although MacSoft I believe published the Mac version.)

However, I've said it before and I'll say it again: don't hold your breath for PC or Mac ports of Halo 2.
