Kudos to Frog in a Box, who pointed out a short article at pc.ign.com regarding 3Dfx's new FXT1 compression techniques. Sure enough, Halo is involved, as Bungie appears to have voiced their support for this new format/technique. Presumably to be included in the Voodoo4 chipset, FXT1 is used for compressing textures, and may make quite a difference in upcoming games.
Kudos to fozzy, who pointed out a Halo write-up in NextGen magazine, entitled Grand Theft Halo ... don't worry, it's not implying a rip off of any sorts. Nothing really new, but it is at least accurate, and even sums up the Take Two deal quite nicely.
Following a well deserved vacation, Hamish has returned to the helm of Marathon's Story, and that venerable center of Marathon culture is back to updating. And after two weeks of backlogged email, I'm sure he's got plenty of news for the next few days (assuming sorting through that email doesn't consume all of his time ;).
Ok, so it's only a paragraph, and there's nothing really new (and actually a mistake or two). Macworld's October Game Room section has a brief blurb on Halo, as well as some info on Oni.
Gary Simmons of Bungie.org sends word that the website, which hosts halo.bungie.org among others, will be moving to a new server, hopefully putting an end to many of the problems that have been plaguing some of the bungie.org sites in recent weeks. Swing by their page for more info as to which will be up and when.
NetGhost, of Halocination, sends word of a Halo NetClub:
Not much to report at the moment... halo.bungie.org is updating again, the forum is firing on all cylinders, and the official trailer is still lurking on the horizon. While it is possible there might be some exclusive previews from the next batch of magazine issues, those remain unconfirmed... nothing more than speculation.
Of course, forecasts been known to be wrong... cross your fingers. ;)
Only vaguely Halo related, but interesting news nevertheless. bungie.net has a note reporting that a patch for Myth II will be released that addresses issues with Myth II and the Voodoo3 Mac drivers. Definitely good news for people holding off on buying a V3 due to incompatibilities.
While you're there, cast your ballot in the new poll: which do you prefer more, newsgroups or web forums?
